In the 2025 Indian Premier League, the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) will be one of the teams with a new captain. The Lucknow-based team made Rishabh Pant the most expensive selection in IPL history by spending a lot of money on him. In the IPL 2025 mega-auction, LSG paid Rs 27 crore to acquire the former captain of the Delhi Capitals (DC).
LSG also spent a lot of money on Nicholas Pooran in addition to paying Rs 27 crore for Rishabh Pant. For Rs 21 crore, he was kept on. Sanjiv Goenka, the owner of the Lucknow Super Giants, has spoken out over the IPL 2025 captain. Two strong candidates to head the Lucknow-based team are Nicholas Pooran and Rishabh Pant. In the IPL 2025 mega-auction, Rishabh joined LSG, while Pooran was kept.
LSG was captained by KL Rahul from 2022 until 2024. In 2022 and 2023, LSG advanced to the second round of the IPL, but in 2024, they were eliminated from the league stage. The former captain was not pursued by LSG.
Will Rishabh Pant Lead LSG In The Coming IPL?
The two batsmen-wicketkeepers are two of the most formidable candidates to take over as LSG’s new captain. The owner of LSG, Sanjiv Goenka, has spoken out about the new captain and stated that a formal announcement will be made shortly.
“People get surprised easily. I don’t think you get surprised easily. It’s been decided. But we will announce in the next few days. We have four leaders in our team – Rishabh, Pooran, Markram, and Mitch Marsh,” Goenka told Aakash Chopra on his YouTube channel.
“So, it becomes a very strong leadership pool of intellect, though,t and strategy. They are all people who can go for the mindset to win. Rishabh has that hunger, and passion that he wants to win, and do something and show it. So, the team is good and we are happy.”
For Rs 20.75 crore, LSG placed the winning bid for Rishabh. DC used their RTM card to keep him. DC failed to match LSG’s increased bid of Rs 27 crore. It’s interesting that Rahul cost Rs 14 crore to sign with DC. Rahul, the previous vice captain of Team India, appears to be a serious candidate to captain the Delhi-based team in the 2025 Indian Premier League.
