In 2021, Pat Cummins succeeded him as captain of Australia. The 31-year-old has so far had a remarkable career. In 2023, he led Australia to a record sixth ODI World Cup championship and victory in the World Test Championship (WTC). Additionally, Australia defeated India 3-1 in the most recent Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT), ending their ten-year wait to reclaim the trophy.
As a result, Australia has advanced to the 2023-25 WTC final and will play South Africa in June at Lords. Australia have already won the WTC once and are all set to have a go at it again in 2025. Pat Cummins and his men have been dominant throughout the WTC cycle having qualified for the final with one series left.
Conversations among cricket fans and analysts were sparked when Dinesh Karthik recently declared Pat Cummins to be the best captain in the world. This audacious claim is made when Rohit Sharma’s leadership is being questioned, particularly in light of India’s dismal showings, which include a home series sweep against New Zealand and a 3-1 series loss in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
Pat Cummins Is The No.1 Captain In The World.
Dinesh Karthik, a former India batsman and wicketkeeper, has disclosed who he thinks is now the best captain in the world. Karthik named Australian all-rounder Pat Cummins the world’s best captain during an appearance on HeyCB with DK.
I feel he (Cummins) is the most aggressive cricketer on the planet right now. And he doesn’t do it with talking or abusing. He does it with his body language, the way he handles the media, post matches, and pre matches. He has in it, he has in him the ability to lead a group of men, and for me, he is the number one captain in the world right now,” Karthik said (via News18).
Prior to the WTC final, Australia will go to Sri Lanka for a two-Test series. Pat Cummins, though, is not on the team. In order to give birth to his second child, the captain all-rounder will be on paternity leave.
In the meantime, Dinesh Karthik, who had announced his retirement from all cricket in June 2024, changed his mind and consented to play for the Paarl Royals in the SA20 League’s 2025 season. He is the first cricket player from India to play in the SA20, the top T20 franchise league in South Africa. The league’s third iteration will take place in 2025.
On Saturday, January 11, the Paarl Royals will play the Sunrisers Eastern Cape, the reigning champions, to start the season. The Boland Park Stadium in Paarl will host the game. After the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) season with the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), this will be Dinesh Karthik’s first tournament.
