Former Pakistan left-arm pacer Mohammad Amir picks India as his favorite against Pakistan despite Jasprit Bumrah’s potential absence during the league stages of ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in Dubai. Mohammad Amir believes India will be under pressure against Pakistan, but India is still his favorite pick.
Jasprit Bumrah, India’s top pacer, may not be able to play in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 because of back swelling. His absence might put more strain on the team and impair India’s bowling assault, particularly before important games against formidable opponents like Pakistan and New Zealand.
India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, and New Zealand are all in Group A. On February 20, they will play Bangladesh in Dubai to kick off their campaign. After this, India’s final group-stage matches against Pakistan and New Zealand are scheduled for February 23 and March 2, respectively.
Mohammad Amir Believes India Will Be Under Pressure Against Pakistan.
Mohammad Amir believes Pakistan has played well recently defeating top teams in their home ground. According to Mohammed Amir Pakistan might have an upper hand against India due Jasprit Bumrah’s absence.
“The way Pakistan has played recently — defeating Australia in Australia and then beating South Africa — shows their strength, especially in overseas conditions. Considering their recent performances, I think Pakistan will have the upper hand against India. However, India has always been my favorite in big tournaments. But the Indian team is under pressure and facing severe criticism due to their recent defeats,” Mohammad Amir told TimesofIndia.com during a group media interaction at the Dubai International Stadium
Mohammad Amir also spoke on Jasprit Bumrah’s potential absence.
“It will be a huge loss to India if Bumrah isn’t there. He has been a top bowler for India, leading the pack from the front. Without him, the Indian bowling attack is reduced to 40-50 percent of its strength,” he said
In the just finished Border Gavaskar Trophy, Bumrah, who has 443 international wickets in 204 appearances across formats, put on an outstanding display, taking 32 wickets in the five-match series, the most by an Indian on foreign soil. He was named Player of the Series for his efforts.
In the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Bumrah bowled 151.2 overs, or 908 deliveries, which begs the question of whether this workload played a role in the injury of India’s top fast bowler. The Champions Trophy ODI team for India has not yet been revealed, and Bumrah’s fitness is still a major worry. Whether the team’s star pacer is ready in time could have a big impact on their chances of winning the championship.
