MI beat LSG comfortably by 54 runs. MI outplayed the opponents completely and is now firmly in the playoff race. They can even aim to finish in the top 2 from now on. MI now have 12 points, 6 wins from 10 matches, and are placed in 3rd position in the points table. LSG, on the other hand, have won 5 and lost 5 matches out of 10 and are placed at 6th position, not in a dangerous position but a bit concerning one.
First win for MI against LSG at the League stage
MI beat LSG for the second time in IPL history yesterday, and it is their first win against them in the group stages. Their only previous victory against them came in the 2023 eliminator match. So, MI has defeated LSG after 2 years. LSG dominates MI in the overall head-to-head contest by winning 6 out of 8 matches.
ESA Day
MI had made a special arrangement of 19,000 seats for the underprivileged children to watch the game live in the stadium. They took care of their transportation, food, and provided them with jerseys. This is called ESA Day, which means Education and Sports for all, which is a collaboration between MI and the Reliance Foundation.
The ESA initiative was started in 2010, and since 2023, MI has invited children from various NGO’s to watch the game. This year, they invited 19000 children to watch the game. This is a great initiative by MI, giving the chance to the underprivileged children to witness a live match in the stadium.
Jasprit Bumrah Leading wicket-taker of MI
Jasprit Bumrah equaled the record of Malinga for most wickets for MI in the last match ( 170 wickets ). He took four wickets against LSG and went past the Sri Lankan legend, and became the leading wicket-taker for MI. Bumrah now has taken 174 wickets now.
He now shares the 7th place in the overall list of leading wicket takers in IPL with Amit Mishra ( both have taken 174 wickets ). He will most likely go past him in the next match as well.
150 wins for MI in IPL
MI registered their 150th win in IPL history. They became the first team to achieve this feat. CSK is in the second position with 140 wins. CSK missed two seasons in the middle as well ( 2016-2017 ). Interestingly, MI’s 50th win and 100th win came against CSK. This time it came against LSG.
50th win – vs CSK in 2013
100th win – vs CSK in 2019
150th win – vs LSG in 2025
Defend 200, any day!
MI is the only team in IPL history who never lost a match while defending a 200-plus total. MI defended their streak for the 16th time consecutively. This is also one of the reasons why they are the champion team of the league.
