CSK beat LSG by 5 wickets in a close encounter yesterday at the Ekana stadium. The former champions gave a solid comeback after 5 consecutive defeats. The bowlers did a great job of containing the strong batting unit of LSG, limiting them to 166 runs. The openers provided a solid start in the powerplay, but the middle order struggled slightly. The finisher MS Dhoni, did it for CSK in the end overs.
Youngest opener for CSK
Shaik Rasheed made his debut for the CSK franchise yesterday and opened the innings along with Rachin Ravindra. He became the youngest player to open for CSK ( 20 years, 202 days ). This record was held by Sam Curran when he opened the innings in 2020 ( 22 years, 132 days ) against Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Rasheed impressed everyone in his debut by scoring 27 runs off 19 balls with 6 boundaries. He showed intent in power play, which was lagging for CSK in the previous matches. He plays some big knocks in the upcoming matches. He also resembles the batting stance of Ruturaj Gaikwad. CSK fans would be hoping he recreates the legacy Ruturaj created.
M.O.M. for MS Dhoni Thala
MS Dhoni was awarded the man of the match award for his excellent knock of 26 runs off 11 balls, and 3 dismissals as a wicket keeper on the field. He is winning this award after 6 long years in the IPL. The last time he won the Man of the Match award was against DC in 2019. Ironically, Rishabh Pant was involved in both the matches.
Dhoni got his 18th Man of the Match award in the IPL. He shares the second place with Virat Kohli in the list of most Man of the Match awards won by Indians in IPL. Rohit Sharma stands in first place with 19 Man of the Match awards.
This is MS Dhoni’s 17th Man of the Match award as a captain. Rohit Sharma stands in the second place with the most Man of the match awards as a captain with 13 awards.
Dhoni also became the oldest player to win the Man of the Match award in the IPL ( 43 years, 281 days ). Pravin Tambe, who played for RR, held this record for 11 years when he won the Man of the Match against KKR in 2014 ( 42 years, 212 days ) for claiming a hat-trick in that match.
