IRE VS ZIM : Ireland Had A Comprehensive Win Over Zimbabwe

Zimbabwe and Ireland locked horns for the one-off test in which Ireland made a comprehensive win over Zimbabwe by 4 wickets. Ireland hosted the only test at Balfest.

 Zimbabwe First Innings: Masauvre stood tall

Zimbabwe was invited to bat first openers J Gumbie and P Masavaure had a flying start slowly and steadily both took the game forward but J Gumbie lost his wicket and missed his half-century later Masavaure took the game forward and the game was quiet balanced after Gumbie’s wicket but suddenly a streak of wickets started and the game was shifted towards Ireland. Sean Williams stood and made an immense contribution of 35 but he also lost his wicket before concluding the second session of Day 2 Masauvre lost his wicket and in the end, Zimbabwe got all out on 210 in the first innings.

Ireland First innings: Barry McCarthy and McBrine shine with the ball

Ireland had won the toss and opted to bowl first and it was an advantage for them to dominate the game. Ireland bowlers went completely dominating Barry McCarthy and Andy McBrine picked 3 wickets while Mark Adair picked 2 wickets. Sheer dominance was shown by Ireland and so they were able to bowl out Zimbabwe on 210.

Ireland’s First Innings: Moor’s innings took Ireland to 250

So Ireland had a trail of 210 and they made a solid start in the first innings. However, later it made them even more difficult as the game went ahead wickets were falling at regular intervals so they found a fuss but Moor stood from one end and scored 79 runs which was the most important from Ireland’s point of view. In the end, Ireland wrapped up on 250 and so they were able to take a lead of 40 runs.

Zimbabwe Second Innings: Dion Myers’s knock took Zimbabwe up to 197

So the lead for Zimbabwe was 40 and they were expecting to score big and win the match but it went the opposite Zimbabwe didn’t get a solid start opener lost their wicket, and Masvaure’s highest scorer in the first innings also lost his wicket, but Dion Myers stood this time and scored a half-century later Sean Williams also played an impressive knock of 40 runs but Zimbabwe couldn’t make it big as they git all out on 197 and so the target for Ireland was 158 which was very easy to chase and Zimbabwe felt like they are on the verge of losing the test.

Ireland Second Innings: Lorcan Tucker and Andy McBrine made Ireland win

In test cricket, the fourth innings always brings thrill whether the target will be chased or not and both teams play more than expected. Ireland needed 158 runs and Zimbabwe 10 wickets, Zimbabwe dominated from the start as they took 4 wickets at the start and Ireland was in big trouble but Lorcan Tucker and Andy McBrine smashed a much-needed fifty which relieved the Ireland team and so they won the match with 4 wickets. Andy McBrine was adjourned as Man Of the Match.

Zimbabwe Second Innings: Unlucky Zimbabwe bowlers

Zimbabwe needed 10 wickets to defend the target and they had a great start as they dismissed 4 batters and felt they were in the game but Lorcan Tucker and Andy McBrine took the game far away from Zimbabwe and so they lost the match. Richard Ngarava picked 4 wickets which went in vain and Blessing Muzarabani picked 2 wickets, but they gave a solid fight in the end they fell short, indeed it was a great match to witness.
