In a shocking development. One of the most decorated franchises, Chennai Super Kings (CSK), has made unnecessary headlines. According to a report in Cricbuzz, it is strongly believed that there are anti-corruption activities going on inside CSK‘s team. CSK recently named Zaheer Khan as the head coach of the side for IPL 2027 out of the blue, as many overseas coaches were waiting in the fray. Such sort of news raises questions about the franchise’s integrity, knowingly or unknowingly.
Trouble for CSK?
We are all very much aware of the fact that CSK was banned from the 2016 & 2017 editions due to illegal betting activities. It would sound very harsh, but it seems that the scars of that incident have come back in the present for the franchise. CSK is a 5-time IPL-winning side, and such incidents put a question mark on their legacy. CSK’s board has denied that the information provided about fixing is verified, but reaching a conclusion, it might tarnish the reputation of the franchise a bit.
CSK has had a torrid run in IPL since the 2023 edition, as they haven’t been able to reach the playoffs since winning the title in the 2023 tournament. The reportedly match fixing incident heads back to the IPL 2025 edition. It sounds excruciating to see that under the jurisdiction of the richest board, BCCI, such sorts of incidents are still happening after the 2013 IPL. BCCI must take stringent action against the franchise, irrespective of its great pedigree, as no one is above the game & IPL.
Is IPL in danger of big money makers?
We are all very much aware of the fact that IPL is no longer associated with Indian people. The betting market is said to be bigger than the ICC ODI WC, as is the craze. We should not forget that even though we had a game of skill, aka betting, legalized in India, it was subsequently banned by the Government of India in August 2025, as a lot of common men were getting addicted to betting on matches beyond limits and putting their lives in danger to earn money.
IPL’s window is getting increased now and then with a 10-team tournament since the 2022 edition. It’s crystal clear that IPL has become an industry for all the big bookmakers to earn immensely & also change the complexion of the match against the run of play. We have absolutely no idea how the game can be influenced in the blink of an eye, as there’s a billion dollars invested in every ball, run, wicket & score, which makes IPL a trillion-dollar product.
What lies ahead with the CSK match-fixing incident?
It looks unlikely that any Chennai Super Kings player would go under the hammer, as most media reports are refuted in such cases. The nexus of every IPL franchise is very powerful & dominant, as it’s tough to get proper justice in any case. It is up to the BCCI to save the game from malicious people, as IPL is the heartbeat of every Indian citizen; it is considered the Festival of India & a sacred festival shouldn’t have big stains on it else people would lose faith in it very quickly.
IPL’s upcoming mini Auction is scheduled to take place in Goa in December. Till that time, we can expect the whole fixing incident to be cleared with facts, as Chennai Super Kiings is a global franchise whose fan base is considered to be one of the biggest. It would be fascinating to see whether Tehelka exposes the player of CSK, Delhi player, CSK, or the puissant richest board & CSK franchises will reject all claims with facts & evidence; as journalism is at stake, we can say.
