IPL 2026: Sanju Samson-Ravindra Jadeja Trade On Hold With BCCI Rules

The mega and most talked about trade featuring Sanju Samson and Ravindra Jadeja has hit a bit of a roadblock and being delayed due to the strict BCCI rules. All the talk ahead of retention day of IPL 2026 and auction has been this trade which is sure to happen between Sanju Samson and Ravindra Jadeja. Things were crystal clear as to where we were heading but multiple requests and multiple players coming into the picture meant that things have become complicated than it should have been.

At first, we thought it will be a direct swap between Samson and Jadeja, but soon things became complicated. The two teams involved in this trade are Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals. Soon, multiple players name cropped up with RR doing most of the demanding saying they need another player alongside Jadeja if they let go of Samson. Multiple names like Dewald Brevis, Noor Ahmad, Matheesha Pathirana and the likes came up and soon, it was zeroed in on Sam Curran to be traded alongside Jadeja in exchange of Samson.

But the twist that has created this roadblock is from the Royals’ end. The Rajasthan Royals have their overseas slots booked. If it was a direct swap, the trade would have been over by now but since they want Sam Curran as well, it means they will have to let go of either Hasaranga or Theekshana to get Sam Curran. This has caused the delay.

What We Know So Far.

So, far the things that we know about this mega trade is that Sanju Samson has been the talk of the town. Chennai are desperate to have him on board, even if it as the cost of some big player. They have decided to let Ravindra Jadeja go to get in Samson and this was the real big talking point. At this stage, the trade exchange looked simple and easy to do from both parties.

The complications and twists and turns came is when Rajasthan asked for an additional player in trade apart from Jadeja with Sanju Samson leaving them. First, they wanted Dewald Brevis which was struck down vehemently and unanimously by CSK management. Then the name of Matheesha Pathirana came up and so did the name of mystery spinner Noor Ahmad. But none of this was agreed by CSK and they turned it down. Finally, RR zeroed in on Sam Curran to come in trade with Jadeja to them with releasing Samson. To this it seems that Chennai Super Kings agreed and the trade was very much on track with CSK giving two players and getting in one.

But the trade was then put on hold due to BCCI rules as Rajasthan faced problems. Rajasthan Royals have their full quota of foreign players with them. So, if they retain the full quota, they cannot trade in Sam Curran since he is a foreign player. In order to fit Sam Curran, they will have to let go a foreign players of theirs. So, one of Hasaranga or Theekshana has to be given up by Rajasthan in order to get Curran. This situation has created a roadblock and the clarity we will only know once the retentions are done which list is supposed to come out on the 15th of November. After the respective players are retained and released, we will get more clarity on Jadeja Samson issue.

What’s Next for Sanju Samson and Ravindra Jadeja.

The wait will continue for both Sanju Samson and Ravindra Jadeja in order to know their fate in IPL 2026. They have to be focussed and do the job in hand in front of them. Sanju will go back to domestic cricket as India are playing red ball cricket now and will play T20Is in December. For Ravindra Jadeja, it is important he remains focussed on the job in hand and that is the India South Africa Test series beginning at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on November 14th.

Jadeja has an important role to play for India in Tests against South Africa with both bat and ball in hand. So, it’s important he remains focussed on international cricket and worry about IPL later when the time comes. Naturally, he will have emotions, but needs to keep it check and focus on the two Tests coming his way as he will be a key player if India wants to come out on top in the Tests.

We will wait and see how things evolved in this mega trade and how things fall into place as we get closer to retention day and auction as well.
