There is excitement in the air as the IPL 2026 Auction is around the corner but before that we have the retention list and released players as well. One news that has grabbed headlines is the possible massive trade between Sanju Samson and Ravindra Jadeja. These two are big names in IPL and have been servants for their respective franchises. But now it seems there is a possibility of a swap between the players and it may happen just on the deadline of retention day which is on November 15th.
The two teams involved in this possible mega trade are Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals. Chennai Super Kings wants Sanju Samson badly according to rumours and various reports and for that they are ready to give Ravindra Jadeja one of their mainstays to the Royals. Although these reports have been absolutely refuted by Chennai Super Kings but they are getting traction and when multiple news portals and sites are reporting the same, there must be some truth to this story. Whether this trade indeed goes through or not only time will tell. Till then, we will get to hear many such rumours regarding this.
What We Know So Far About The Trade.Â
As per reports, Chennai Super Kings desperately wants Sanju Samson as they need a keeper post MS Dhoni. So, they approached Rajasthan Royals where Sanju Samson was keen to leave their franchise due to some difference of opinion and the departure of Rahul Dravid as coach as well. It seemed that the trade will be a direct swap as both Sanju and Jadeja got 18 crores in the previous auction from their respective franchises. All seemed well at this stage when suddenly Rajasthan Royals upped their demand.
The Royals suddenly in wanting to give up Sanju not only wanted Jadeja but with him another player and it was none other than Dewald Brevis. As soon as Brevis name came up in this trade, CSK reportedly turned the offer down. While they were willing to let go of Jadeja, there was no way in which they were letting go off Brevis for sure after what Brevis did for them as replacement player last season as he was the lone bright spot in a disappointing campaign for CSK. So, the talks fell through at this stage.
But it seems now that the talks have again reopened with multiple reports suggesting that Royals want apart from Jadeja, Sam Curran, or Matheesha Pathirana and now very lately mystery spinner Noor Ahmad’s name has also popped up which has created more confusion and has raised more questions than answers. It seems Rajasthan wants multiple players in order to give one Sanju Samson. CSK and RR are on a negotiating table as a result. At this stage, CSK won’t mind giving Sam Curran or Pathirana away but they won’t want to let go of Noor Ahmad after Noor was also one of the shining lights apart from Brevis.
There will be a lot of twists and turns in this story and we have to wait till the deadline of retention day to see whether this materialises or not. But at this stage, this trade is the hot topic and discussion in town for all.
Sanju Samson & Ravindra Jadeja’s Performances for their respective franchises.Â
Both Sanju Samson and Ravindra Jadeja have been stellar performers for their respective franchises over the years. Samson was the heart and soul of Rajasthan Royals putting in performances year after year and day after day. He has performed well and scored tons for them, but last season he missed the major part of it due to injury and as a result, Riyan Parag led the side and this may have lead to some disgruntlement in the camp. It was a bad season due to fitness for Samson.
Ravindra Jadeja has been an important cog in the wheel for CSK for so many years that it cannot be measured. He batted down the order and has finished many games at the backend and has performed admirably with the ball. In the field, he has been electric for whichever side he played for. He has made a stellar contribution for CSK over the years and one believes he is still an important asset for them. But last season, he had an average one by not quite delivering the goods with bat nor with ball. He was terrific on the field. It was an average season for India’s all-rounder.
Lately, Jadeja has been in red hot form in Test Cricket while he has left playing T20Is. It seems that he is past his prime in T20s, but CSK won’t want to give Jadeja away to another franchise that easily. He is a necessity and CSK might not give him away. For all we know, CSK might get Samson and let go of other players and keep Jadeja with the franchise. Anything might happen and we have to wait and watch when the retention list is announced or just before the trade is completed.
What Lies Ahead for Sanju Samson & Ravindra Jadeja.Â
It will be an anxious wait for both Sanju Samson and Ravindra Jadeja as before things become official and confirmed, rumours will keep floating around. So, they will keep an eye on what’s going on with regards to their IPL future. But for now, they should focus on representing their country. Samson will have a bit of breather as he does not play or not considered for Tests. Jadeja should focus on the upcoming 2-match Test series against South Africa starting on November 14th at Eden Gardens, Kolkata.
The Indian team has already landed in the City of Joy early this morning led by Shubman Gill and will practise for the next few days. Jadeja should keep the outside noise behind and concentrate on the tough assignment coming up next as these two Test matches will be hard fought between India and South Africa. South Africa will definitely fancy their chances in this match.
