Yashasvi Jaiswal, the 21-year-old boy, kept toying with the West Indies bowlers in their own backyard. The West Indies had no answers on how to stop the young lad from scoring a daddy hundred on his debut for India. Yashasvi Jaiswal broke so many records on his debut itself. He batted throughout the day and remained not out at stumps.
The West Indies, who were just playing for participation, went down the drain as the hosts hardly picked up a couple of wickets the entire day. Virat Kohli and Yashasvi Jaiswal remain not out and will continue their partnership, which was already yielded 72 runs in 205 balls, on Day 3 as India’s score was 312-2.
Top Performer Of The Day
Without a shadow of a doubt, Yashasvi Jaiswal made a resounding statement after facing 350 deliveries in his debut innings and he is not done yet. By facing that many deliveries, Jaiswal claims the record for facing the most balls by an Indian on debut.
Additionally, Yashasvi Jaiswal scored 143 runs in his debut match, becoming the 17th Indian player to achieve a century on Test debut. He also becomes the third opener for India to score a hundred on debut, following in the footsteps of Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw.
Although Jaiswal survived a close call in the final phase of the day’s play, as the umpire did not give him out lbw on the ball from Kemar Roach in the 102nd over of the innings, he got lucky that the Windies had no reviews left to challenge the clear lbw decision. Overall, Jaiswal’s controlled innings throughout the day ensured another day dominated by India.
The skipper of the Indian team also stepped forward and delivered with his bat under the Caribbean sky, scoring a ton that led India to march towards victory. Rohit Sharma clinched his 10th Test hundred overall and his second ton outside India. However, Rohit Sharma didn’t convert his 100 into a big one as he got out on the ball of Alick Athanaze. But before getting out, he made sure to clear the way for his other teammates to score big runs on the field.
Clear Advantage To The Visitors
India, who had been in control from the very beginning, continued to smash the Windies even after dismissing Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill. Virat Kohli, who came in at No.4, formed a 72-run partnership with the centurion Jaiswal. Kohli also remained unbeaten on 36 runs. He displayed no rush and constructed his innings in an unhurried manner.
West Indies failed to outsmart India in any department and had a bitter pill to swallow throughout the two days. They are unable to identify any positives thus far and must be contemplating the upcoming lengthy batting line-up. Additionally, West Indies has already utilized nine bowlers, with Jomel Warrican alone delivering 34 overs in a single day.
What’s most likely to happen
Last time India met West Indies in a Test match in Dominica was back in 2011, and that match ended in a draw. However, this time it is highly unlikely that this match will end in a draw. There are still three days left, and the West Indies team doesn’t even seem to have the intent to fight for a draw, forget about their win.
India must be eyeing a lead of at least 400, and Yashasvi Jaiswal must have some butterflies in his stomach while thinking about his double century in his debut. He’s only 57 runs away from the double hundred. In the back of Virat Kohli’s mind, he might be thinking about his awaited 29th test century. With Ajinkya Rahane, Ishan Kishan, and Ravindra Jadeja yet to come, India might accelerate things from tomorrow.
