In the 92nd over, there was a yes and no confusion between Yashasvi Jaiswal & Shubman Gill. Yashasvi Jaiswal called for a single at covers. Earlier, Shubman Gill agreed, then backed out, which cost Yashasvi Jaiswal his golden chance of smashing a double century. Yashasvi Jaiswal was dismissed on 175 runs in 258 balls and hit 22 fours in his knock. West Indies got the much needed early break-though.

Shubman Gill, along, the second new ball, was 8 overs old as the pacers were getting help from both ends. Though Shubman Gill & Nitish Kumar Reddy had other ideas, they launched a counterattack on the opposition team. Anderson Philip & Jayden Seales weren’t able to contain the batters. India yielded 61 runs in 12 overs before the drinks break was taken as the score was 379-3.

Shubman Gill’s rampage dents the West Indies

Nitish Kumar Reddy & Shubman Gill were quite ruthless post-drinks break phase. Nitish Kumar Reddy was cruising to his half-century, but in the 109th over, Jomel Warrican got the better of him on the 3rd ball of the 109th over. Nitish Kumar Reddy was dropped on 20 runs; he did not make much more of the chance, but played an attacking knock of 43 runs in 54 balls and hit 4 fours and 2 sixes. At that time, India’s score was 416-4 in 108.3 overs.

Shubman Gill, on the other hand, was dismantling the bowling unit. The promotion of Nitish Kumar Reddy to the No.4 position did wonders for the team as they got quick and brisk runs on the board. There was a brilliant exhibition of batting from India; they scored a whopping 109 runs in 26 overs and lost 2 wickets. Dhruv Jurel somewhat played ultra-defensive cricket, which may be because there was no need to go all-out attack.

What lies ahead for India & West Indies in the afternoon session

Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir & skipper Shubman Gill would be thinking of declaring the innings in excess of 550. Shubman Gill has a great chance of smashing a century and continuing his dream run in the Test arena as a skipper. The captain has looked quite calm, composed, and fiery in his innings so far. Shubman Gill has very quickly made the batting No.4 position slot his own in a very short span of time, which is quite inspiring, as it is often said, form is temporary; class is permanent, and no better example at the moment rather than him.

West Indies, on the other hand, now have a mountain to climb in this Test match. The bowlers didn’t execute immaculate line & lengths for a long time, due to which the hosts continued the onslaught. It would sound very harsh, but it seems, West Indies have surrendered as their shoulders were dropping down and hardly any excitement from the players. The afternoon session can be another one where hosts pummel West Indies.
