IND vs WI: Shubman Gill Smashes Turbulent Ton

India just unleashed the attack on the opposition in the afternoon session. It seemed as if some highlights package, the fans were witnessing. India’s skipper Shubman Gill notched up his 9th Test ton. India declared the innings on 518-5 in 134.2 overs, whereas West Indies’ score was 26-1 in 11 overs. The Men in Maroon were in all sorts of trouble while they had a bowl in hand, as they lacked consistency and discipline in bowling.

Dhruv Jurel & Shubman Gill initially took time to get their eye in in the afternoon session. The rough was created as the West Indies’ two left-arm spinners, Jomel Warrican & Khary Pierre, had done the bulk of the bowling. Shubman Gill notched up his ton in 177 balls as the Indian skipper announced himself in India’s summer. Post century, Shubman Gill unleashed an attack on the opposition as the bowlers were whacked all around the park in a brutal way.

West Indies’ bowlers seemed as if they didn’t have the zeal and zest left in them for this match. It’s quite accepted as well that being in the field in the scorching heat of Delhi is never easy but giving up without a fight is unacceptable in modern-day cricket. India declared the innings on 518-5, and just before the drinks break, Shubman Gill stopped the game and invited the Caribbean batters to bat for a short span of time.

Ravindra Jadeja breaks the opening stand

John Campbell & Tagenarine Chanerpaul showed laudable defense and resistance at the start of the innings. There was a kind of an improved performance from Caribbean openers. At the end of 7 overs, the West Indies’ score was 17 runs for the loss of no wickets. The introduction of Ravindra Jadeja in the 8th over broke the stands as a slog sweep shot by John Campbell was taken by a close-in fielder.

John Campbell was getting into the groove, but a placement wasn’t good. West Indies’ score was 21-1 in 7.2 overs. West Indies’ somehow played out the last phase of the afternoon session without any collateral damage. West Indies’ score was 26-1 in 11 overs as Tagenarine Chanderpaul showed some good intent in this innings after a string of low scores in the series, and his footwork in this match was very good

What lies ahead for India & West Indies in the afternoon session

West Indies have a steep road ahead of them as the evening session would be decisive. West Indies need to take one session at a time and first of all focus on avoiding platform and play out the spinners rather than going berserk. A lot is at stake for the West Indies as they not only have been under the pump but now questions are raised over their domestic structure and board as well.

It’s crystal clear for India, they need to take 20 wickets to win the match. Kuldeep Yadav & Ravindra Jadeja can wreck the West Indies’ batting unit and create panic again in the dressing room. With lots and lots of time being left in the Test match, India are in absolute control of the game as West Indies trail by 492 runs. West Indies needs someone to smash a magnificent knock like Yashasvi Jaiswal scored 175 runs then only they will be able to make a comeback in match.
