Rohit Sharma and Yashaswi Jaiswal impressed as the Indian cricket team produced an explosive batting performance to smash five world records on Day 4 of the second Test match against Bangladesh in Kanpur on Monday. On Monday, Rohit Sharma sashaying down the pitch to launch Khaled Ahmed straight down the ground and then swiveling on his back foot to pummel the next ball over square leg was deliberate.

Rohit Sharma let out some raw emotions after he successfully reviewed an LBW call against him during Day 4 of the 2nd Test against Bangladesh in Kanpur on Monday. Rohit Sharma was batting on 23 when he took the DRS after being given out leg before by umpire Richard Kettle borough off the bowling of Mehidy Hasan Miraz, but instead of breathing a big sigh of relief, the skipper was overcome with emotions after he survived the call taking a brilliant review.

Rohit Sharma and Team India’s blitzkrieg on Day 4 gives India advantage vs Bangladesh

Rohit Sharma  put on quite the show as India began their first innings of the 2nd Test against Bangladesh aggressively. After two days were lost entirely due to rain, Rohit batted like a man possessed, smashing a quickfire 23 off 11 balls as India blasted their way to the fastest-ever half-century in the history of Test cricket. Rohit Sharma and Yashaswi Jaiswal took just 18 balls – exactly three overs – to give themselves a place in the record books – and went berserk, unleashing an assault that left Bangladesh shellshocked.

Although it was Jaiswal, who went on to outscore his partner, Rohit Sharma, as always, was the more entertaining one. He began the innings with a six each off the first two balls face, and after smashing a third to go with a four, Rohit Sharma appeared to be in scorching form. His third six, a humongous hit over long on promoted former India wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik on commentary to echo the sentiments of a million Indian cricket as he said, “Someone tell Rohit Sharma he is retired. He is no longer playing T20 internationals.”

An on-song Rohit, who brought back his form from the 2023 World Cup, was set to inject more punishment when against the run of play, he missed an attempted pull shot for the ball to rap him on the pads.

Kettle borough immediately raised his finger, but Rohit Sharma  took the review as quickly as the umpire’s decision. There was no inside edge, evidently, but the ball’s impact was well outside leg. As soon as the replay appeared on the screen, a pumped Rohit slammed the bat and mouthed a few words to himself – it was clear that Rohit wasn’t impressed with the decision. However, Rohit’s escape did not last long as on the very next ball, the Indian captain was cleaned up by Mehidy.

Rohit Sharma enjoyed a bit of luck throughout his innings. He was on 12 when he inside edged the ball to the keeper, but Bangladesh showed only a little excitement and decided against reviewing it. The replay though reflected a clear spike on the Ultra Edge as the ball passed the bat confirming that there indeed was some wood. As Bangladesh players looked crestfallen looking at the giant screen, their despair was short-lived as Mehidy eventually managed to get rid of Rohit Sharma.

Foffie Williams is known, even though it happened way back in 1948, because he was a fast bowler and it was very out of character. The rest of these marauders are of a more recent vintage and therefore data about them is much more readily available. Sachin Tendulkar took a liking to Nathan Lyon in 2013 and Umesh Yadav couldn’t resist George Linde in 2019. Each of these was an attack in the spur of the moment.

On Monday, Rohit Sharma sashaying down the pitch to launch Khaled Ahmed straight down the ground and then swiveling on his back foot to pummel the next ball over square leg was deliberate. Former Indian batter now commentator Sanjay Manjrekar hails Indian captain Rohit Sharma for his thunderous approach.

Sanjay Manjrekar hails Indian captain Rohit Sharma after dramatic Day 4

Sanjay Manjrekar believes that Rohit Sharma has secured his legacy in Indian cricket for his selfless approach. Sanjay Manjrekar said that Rohit only plays to win and should get the credit for India’s new approach in Test cricket.

Former India cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar lauded Rohit Sharma’s selfless approach after Day 4 of the Kanpur Test match. Speaking on ESPNCricinfo Manjrekar said that the India Test captain had secured his legacy in the Indian team. Under Rohit’s leadership, India deflated the Bangladesh side on Day 4, with their firebrand cricket.

Former batter Sanjay Manjrekar hailed Indian captain Rohit Sharma’s positive intent after the hosts came up with a sensational batting on Day 4 of the Kanpur Test against Bangladesh on Monday, September 30. Manjrekar said that the selfless approach that Rohit has brought to Indian cricket is the legacy that he will leave behind as captain.

India scored 285-9 in just 34.4 overs on Day 4 of the Kanpur Test against Bangladesh. After two days of the Test were lost to weather conditions, Bangladesh resumed their first innings on 107-3. Despite Mominul Haque’s unbeaten 107, they were bowled out for 233. India then broke several records before declaring their first innings.

During a discussion on ESPNCricinfo, Manjrekar credited Rohit for instilling a positive, win-at-all-costs attitude in the team. He also praised the Mumbai cricketer for walking to talk and thus leading by example. Manjrekar commented:

“This is the legacy that Rohit Sharma will leave behind as captain. This is how he thinks. A strong team, which is one of the top two sides in the world, they also showed the champion’s approach, realizing so much time has been lost. And he leads by example, exactly how he did in the 50-overs World Cup. So, this is what Rohit Sharma will leave behind as his contribution to Indian cricket.

“You do something only for the team and play to win. He does not mind in the process, like in the 50-overs World Cup… He didn’t get a big hundred on anything like that. Even here, was quite happy to put his wicket on the line and suddenly we have a Test match which India could win. You have to applaud Rohit Sharma for that,” the 59-year-old former India batter went on to add.

After Bangladesh were bowled out for 233, Rohit (23 off 11) and Yashaswi Jaiswal (72 off 51) added 55 in 3.5 overs. KL Rahul also contributed a brisk 68 off 43 balls, while Virat Kohli made 47 off 35.
