Pitch Report and Toss

Pitch Report: “When we started this tournament, the grass was green but it is turning brown. This is the third game on this surface. The spinners will come into play. But dew will be a factor. If it comes into play then batting becomes easy. Otherwise 140-150 should be a good score,” reckon Daren Ganga and Waqar Younis.

Toss : Sharjah Warriorz skipper Tim Southee won the toss and chose to field with no changes in the playing XI. Dubai Capitals skipper Sikandar Raza batting first made one changes in the playing XI.

New Entrant Adam Zampa and spinners restrict Dubai Capitals to 131 for 9 in 20 overs

The spinners delivered a strong performance for the Warriorz earlier, with Adam Zampa claiming two wickets for 28 runs, limiting the Dubai Capitals to a below-par total. Off spinners Rohan Mustafa and Ashton Agar ably supported Adam Zampa to restrict the opposition with spells of 2 for 12 and 1 for 14, respectively.

Earlier, the Dubai Capitals had a promising start as Adam Rossington went after the bowling attack. His 37 off 23 balls, including a six and two fours, propelled the Capitals to 55 runs in the powerplay. However, his aggressive innings was cut short by Adam Zampa in the seventh over, shifting the momentum in favor of the Warriorz.

From there, the Sharjah Warriorz’ spinners dominated. Adam Zampa, alongside Ashton Agar and Rohan Mustafa, squeezed the run flow, forcing the Capitals into a collapse in the middle overs. Adam Zampa claimed another scalp when he dismissed Gulbadin Naib, while Mustafa’s double strike—removing Khalid Shah and Dasun Shanaka—exposed the lower order.

At 85/4 in 12 overs, the Capitals desperately needed acceleration. Shai Hope, who played a slow innings of 45 off 52 balls, struggled to find momentum, and his dismissal in the 18th over by Tim Southee further dented their chances.

The scoring rate declined significantly after the powerplay overs. While Hope maintained his presence at one end with cautious batting, wickets fell regularly at the other end as spinners controlled the middle phase of the innings. Hope’s innings concluded at 45 runs from 52 balls, dismissed by Tim Southee (1 for 31) in the 18th over. Rovman Powell showed promise with an undefeated 32 runs from 16 balls, including 3 fours and 2 sixes, yet Dubai Capitals could only manage a modest total.

A late cameo from Rovman Powell, who remained unbeaten on 32 off 16 balls, provided some respectability to the total. Powell struck two sixes and three fours, but the Capitals could only manage 131/9 in 20 overs, a total that was never going to be enough against the in-form Warriorz batting unit.

Presentations and Road Ahead

Sikandar Raza the loosing DC captain said : Suddenly having to go 10 overs without a boundary, the intent for the majority period was not there, credit goes to Zampa, Rohan and Agar. There should have been more shots played, rather than no shots. We were traditional in our batting, if I’m a bowler, I’m happy to go for singles. It’s a short format of the game where freedom is important, we went into a shell, I want our side to be aggressive.

[on Charles] He hit five reverse slaps for six or whatever you want to call that shot, he is a great player. Once Johno is in form, it’s tough, he played a lot of great shots and sometimes you have to hold your hand up and say well played. One bad game won’t derail us. I’m still upbeat and still positive, the message to the guys – try and get this game out of the system and try and remember the four games we have won. Win the next two that is our target.

Tim Southee the winning SW captain said : The spinners were outstanding, Rohan as well, he complemented the other two and stalled the momentum the Capitals had. The performance has improved and tonight was the best performance of the tournament. Never ideal to drop catches but it was not costly tonight. [on Charles] Unbelievable, we know how dangerous he can be when he comes off.

Adam Zampa Player of the Match for his bowling effort said : They obviously got off to a flier, once I bowled my first over, there was spin. I love playing here in Dubai, there was skid as well. The other spinners complemented well and we were happy with 132 that’s for sure.

The wicket we played today is a little bit bigger on the off-side and we used the width of the pitch. Ashton and I played so much together, communication is easy with one another. We haven’t played a lot together recently, was nostalgic but we fed off each other well. We joked at the halfway mark, let’s sort out our NRR and Johnson and TKC sorted it out.

Johnson Charles lit up the Dubai International Stadium, alongside fellow opener Tom Kohler-Cadmore, to propel the Sharjah Warriorz to a commanding nine-wicket win in the ILT20 on Tuesday. Johnson Charles delivered an exceptional performance, scoring 71 runs from 33 deliveries, and stitched a breathtaking opening partnership of 123 runs with Kohler-Cadmore, who remained unbeaten on 54 off 32 balls.

The Warriorz completed the chase of 131 for 9 in just 11.5 overs to maintain their winning streak against the Dubai Capitals. The victory improved the Warriorz’s net run-rate, strengthening their position in the race to playoffs.

The powerplay effectively settled the chase as Johnson Charles and Kohler-Cadmore ruled the proceedings with the season’s best powerplay total. They accumulated 79 runs in six overs, with Johnson Charles particularly aggressive, striking five massive sixes, including a notable 24-run over against Zahir Khan.

Johnson Charles reached his half-century in 21 deliveries, featuring six sixes and two fours. His outstanding innings continued until Sikandar Raza (1 for 9) dismissed him in the 11th over. Johnson Charles’s knock included 3 fours and 8 sixes.

Kohler-Cadmore concluded the match in the subsequent over with a boundary off Dushmantha Chameera. The English smashed 8 fours and 2 sixes.

The spinners delivered a strong performance for the Warriorz earlier, with Adam Zampa claiming two wickets for 28 runs, limiting the Dubai Capitals to a below-par total. Off spinners Rohan Mustafa and Ashton Agar ably supported Zampa to restrict the opposition with spells of 2 for 12 and 1 for 14, respectively.

Adam Rossington displayed aggressive intent with 4 sixes and 2 fours, helping the Capitals score 55 runs in the powerplay. Shai Hope played a supporting role until Rossington’s dismissal by Zampa in the seventh over, having scored 37 runs from 23 deliveries.

What an easy win for the Warriorz. Credit to Charles and Kohler-Cadmore. Both were aggressive from the outset and the Capitals’ bowlers had no clue. The West Indian was on song as he brought out his switch-hits and destroyed Zahir Khan. Runs came at a rapid pace and the target was chased down inside 12 overs. Will do the NRR of the Warriorz a massive help and a much-needed two points for them even though they still lie at the bottom of the table. The Capitals were just blown away by the opening duo tonight.
