The Prize money of the winners of the WTC final 2025 has been announced. It’s 3.6 million USD, which is double the prize money of previous editions. The previous winners, New Zealand ( 2021 ) and Australia ( 2023 ) got 1.6 million USD each. The runners-up’s prize money also increased as they will get 2.16 million USD. India, which was the runner-up in both the previous finals, got 800,000 USD.
Increase in prize money
This increase in prize money looks like an effort from the ICC to promote test cricket. The prize amount for every team in the WTC points Table has been increased. The prize money of each team in the WTC points table :
- Winner – AUS/SA – 3.6 million USD ( previous prize amount – 1.6 million USD )
- Runners-up – AUS/SA – 2.16 million USD ( previous prize amount – 800,000 USD )
- Third – India – 1.4 million USD ( previous prize amount – 450,000 USD )
- Fourth – New Zealand – 1.2 million USD ( previous prize amount – 350,000 USD )
- Fifth – England – 960,000 USD ( previous prize amount – 200,000 USD )
- Sixth – Sri Lanka – 840,000 USD ( previous prize amount – 100,000 USD )
- Seventh – Bangladesh – 720,000 USD ( previous prize amount – 100,000 USD )
- Eight – West Indies – 600,000 USD ( previous prize amount – 100,000 USD )
- Ninth – Pakistan – 480,000 USD ( previous prize amount – 100,000 USD )
This increase in prize will encourage teams to invest more in test cricket, and we could see more teams participating in the WTC in the future, with further longer cycles. Currently, nine out of twelve test-playing nations are participating in the cycle.
Zimbabwe, Afghanistan and Ireland are yet to make their debut in the WTC cycle.
WTC Final
The final of the World Test Championship cycle 2023-2025 has been scheduled at Lord’s stadium, London, from 11th June to 15th June between Australia and South Africa. South Africa finished in first position in the WTC points table by beating Pakistan by 2 wickets in their last match of the cycle. They became the first team to seal their spot in the finals.
Australia grabbed the second place from India by beating them 3-1 in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-2025. India, for the first time misses the WTC final.
