ICC T20 World Cup 2024: Matthew Mott Resigns As England’s White-Ball Coach After T20 World Cup Exit

England was knocked out of the T20 World Cup 2024 after India defeated them, they had a spectacular World Cup but they failed to deliver in the semi-final so they were knocked out.

England had won the 2022 T20 World Cup under Matthew Mott and they changed the pattern of T20is since then. But England suffered a massive knockout in ODI World Cup 2023 they haven’t performed well and were able to win just 3 games out of 9 games.

Matthew Mott resigns as Head Coach

England were the defending champions of both formats of the World Cup but since 2022 nothing has gone peacefully for England they had the worst World Cup of 2023 they admitted their players weren’t in form and so they failed. England’s white-ball head coach Matthew Mott resigns as head coach after team’s exit from World Cup semis. However he shaped well England in white-ball since many players were coming from IPL but they had the intent of playing aggressive cricket which they did they finished two matches within 6 overs and so they qualified for Super 8 and later to the semis, so Matthew Mott played a huge role for England they looked very powerful and were one of the contenders to lift the World Cup but knocked out. Matthew Mott said:

“I am immensely proud to have coached the England Men’s team; it has been an honor. We have put everything into trying to achieve success over the past two years, and I am incredibly proud of the character and passion that the team has displayed during that period, including a magnificent T20 World Cup victory in 2022,” Matthew Mott said in a statement.

“I would like to thank the players, management, and everyone at the ECB for their commitment, support, and hard work during my time. I leave with many great friendships and incredible memories. Finally, I would like to thank the England fans, who have always backed us and given us fantastic support wherever we have traveled around the world,” he added.

Trescothick will join as head coach for England’s white-ball format and his tenure will start from September when Australia will tour England for T20is and ODIs. Trescothick said:

“I am looking forward to working with Jos Buttler, the players and coaches over the next few weeks. The focus is building towards the series against Australia and our plans for next year’s Champions Trophy campaign,” Trescothick said.

“England cricket is in a strong position, and the potential is huge, given the quality we have available. It is about harnessing that potential and developing the work that has already been put in place by Mathew Mott and the rest of the set-up. I’m excited about the challenge and shaping how we want to play.”
