ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 India thrashed South Africa in final and won the trophy after 17 years. India snatched the victory from jaws of defeat which one time looked South Africa would chase it easily.
India finished the drought after 11 years and now they have fulfilled their dreams by winning the trophy. Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma announced their retirements while Ravindra jadeja too announced his retirement from T20is.
Wasim Jaffer praise other batter
India won the toss and opted to bat first though they started well but Keshav Maharaj came as an obstacle and scapled 2 wickets in an over and India faced in trouble. But Virat Kohli and Axar Patel stood up and registered a partnership which was the highlight of the game. Virat Kohli scored 76 runs while Axar Patel scored 47 runs. As everyone saw that both scored runs and took India to 176 but Virat Kohli was the one who came in limelight and felt Axar Patel was sidelined. Former Indian batter Wasim Jaffer also felt that Axar’s knock was kept sidelined purposely and no one praised him more. Wasim Jaffer said :
“Virat Kohli hadn’t scored many runs in the tournament, but he chose the right moment to come good. Cometh the hour, cometh the man as we say, his knock of 76 made a lot of difference and kept one end intact,” the 46-year-old said.
“The most important part I thought was played by Axar Patel. The cameo that he played ensured that the run rate from India never dropped below eight runs per over. He took the attack to the South African bowlers and didn’t let them settle, forming a crucial partnership with Kohli,” Jaffer explained.
“Two giants of the game (Rohit and Kohli) have retired from T20Is and this will certainly form a big gap. However, they rightly chose to go out on a high after winning the trophy and we should bow down to the true greats of the game.”
Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will always be remembered for ages and their contribution in t20is is incredible.
