Former Indian Cricketer Harbhajan Singh feels that Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) will have to make some tough calls about retaining and releasing players ahead of IPL 2025. The off-spinner picked Shreyas Iyer, Phil Salt, Sunil Narine, Andre Russell, and Rinku Singh as the capped retentions for the upcoming season.

The Kolkata-based franchise is the current champion of the prestigious  Trophy. They had a fabulous season and lifted the title defeating SunRisers Hyderabad in the final with a thumping 8-wicket victory marking their third trophy in IPL.

I will definitely want to see Rinku Singh– Harbhajan Singh

Speaking on a show on Star Sports, Harbhajan Singh said KKR will find it difficult while retaining players. He explained,

“KKR dominated the entire season, so it will be difficult for them to leave or retain anyone. But it’s a matter of retention, so you only have limited numbers that you can retain. If I want to see or if I have to choose my 6 players, which 6 players will be there for KKR? I think Shreyas Iyer will be there, Phil Salt will be there, Narine will be there, Andre Russell will be there, Rinku Singh will be there.

“I will definitely want to see Rinku Singh. He should be the 5th player to be retained,” the 44-year-old went on to add.

Rinku Singh did not get much of an opportunity in the last season. He had a pretty underwhelming season scoring just 168 runs at under 20 as a finisher which might have cost him a spot for the T20 World Cup where India lifted the Trophy.

It could be Ramandeep Singh– Harbhajan Singh on KKR’s uncapped retention

Speaking about the uncapped Retention for KKR ahead of IPL 2025, Harbhajan said KKR can make a bold decision to retain Ramandeep Singh. The former off-spinner added,

“And if we talk about one more player, who is the last player to be retained? It could be Ramandeep Singh. He is an uncapped player. I think he should be retained. He played very well last year and I have seen his performance in domestic cricket this year as well. So I think this 6th player, Knight Rider, will be retained.”

Ramandeep played 14 games in IPL 2024 for KKR, scoring 125 runs at an average of 31.25 striking at an impressive 201.61.
