One of the main reasons why GT got to a respectable total was due to the crucial knock played by Sai Sudharsan. In a game where Shubman Gill and Jos Buttler fell cheaply, Sai Sudharsan put his head down on a tricky, challenging pitch and scored a gritty half-century that kept GT afloat. At one stage, GT were in trouble and feeling the heat in the first 6-10 overs. But Sai Sudharsan was brilliant as he applied himself while losing his partners and scored 61, which helped GT post a competitive total on the board.
Sai Sudharsan has been reliable for GT for the past 2-3 seasons. We remember his special knock in the 2023 final against CSK, and then he has consistently performed for his side when it has mattered for them. Last season, he formed a great partnership with captain Shubman Gill and with Buttler at 3, it was a top 3 to watch out for, and they are trying to carry that on in this season as well. Sai started slow, but has picked up speed now. He looks good to help GT in a big way.
Sai Sudharsan’s gritty knock helps GT post a competitive total on the board
Put into bat first, Sai Sudharsan and captain Shubman Gill walked out to bat for GT. Sudharsan was determined to play a good knock, but all was not smooth sailing for the southpaw as he lost partners from the other end. His opening partner and captain, Gill, fell for a low score, and so did Jos Buttler, and once the keeper batter fell, Sai knew he was the key now for GT to post a competitive total on the board. Sudharsan also lost Nishant Sindhu after he got a bit of a start as the Titans were 64/3 in the 10th over.
Sudharsan found an able ally in Washington Sundar as the two players from Tamil Nadu set about rescuing things for the home side in Ahmedabad. Sudharsan applied himself really well and played according to the merit of the ball to rescue the team. He put on 60 runs for the 4th wicket, in which Sundar played his part as well. But the platform and the flurry in the death overs phase were set up by Sudharsan, who played the perfect role of an anchor player. Sudharsan fell with about 3 overs to go, but the platform was set, and others capitalised on it.
Sai Sudharsan: Mr Dependable for the Gujarat Titans
Sai Sudharsan has emerged as the most dependable player for the Gujarat Titans owing to his consistency. He started this season quietly and was getting starts and not converting them to good scores. But he has found his mojo now and is looking good for GT. He got a splendid ton vs CSK in the 2024Â IPL and, before that, a special knock in the 2023 final in a losing effort. Last season, we mustn’t forget he was the Orange Cap holder. This season, he started slowly, but has picked up speed now.
Sudharsan started with low scores like 12 vs DC, 15 vs LSG, 22 vs KKR, and a golden duck against MI. So, he was getting starts but not kicking on after that. But his breakthrough innings came against RCB in Bengaluru, where he scored 100 off 58 balls in a losing cause. He followed that up with 87 off 46 balls in a winning effort against CSK. He scored 57 off 41 balls against PBKS and 55 off 36 balls vs RR. Last night under tough conditions, Sai made 61 off 44 balls against SRH.
Sai Sudharsan is Mr Dependable for the simple reason that he brings stability to the side and can anchor when the team is in trouble. He also plays his shots as well. He will be one of the key players for GT going forward. Owing to his consistency, he is more reliable than Gill and Buttler. Sai will aim to keep doing well in the coming matches as he has already crossed 500 runs this season. He may not have the Orange Cap, but he is always there in the vicinity. He is an important cog in the wheel for GT alongside Gill and Buttler.
What Lies Ahead
So, GT will next face KKR on Saturday night in Eden Gardens, Kolkata, while SRH faces CSK next on Monday, 18th May 2026, in Chennai. Tonight, it is defending champions RCB taking on KKR in Raipur. An important game for KKR to keep their hopes alive, and for RCB as well, as a win takes them into the playoffs almost. Let’s see how things pan out later tonight.
