Unfortunately, West Indian fast bowler Kemar Roach has again come to the casualty list ahead of a Test series for England as he is suffering from a chronic back problem. The 34-year-old, who has been a part of 73 Test matches wherein he took 243 wickets at an average of 28. 35, said that he had been facing the problem since the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) of this year.
Injury Fails to Respond to Treatment
Roach had gone for treatment and rehabilitation in an aim to get fit in time for the two Test series starting March 17. But he did not succeed in his attempt and remained fit to some extent only; he has been declared unfit for the tour. This news is a big set back for the West Indies who as it was would have a hard time against a strong English side.
“We’re disappointed to lose Kemar, but we understand that his injury requires more time to heal,” said West Indies captain Kraigg Brathwaite. “We have a strong squad and we’re confident that our other bowlers can fill the void left by Kemar’s absence,”
Bowling Attack Must Step Up
Roach’s layoff is a major loss in the Windies’ bowling department, which has been characterized by inconsistency lately. He proved himself as one of the most expert bowlers of the team, and his non-availability would be really a big loss. However West Indies believes in other bowler as well and they have Shannon Gabriel, Alzarri Joseph, and Jason Holder with them who can help in the series.
A Test of Mettle
West Indies will, therefore, be eager to establish their dominance on the new-looking English side which occupies the second position in the ICC Test rankings. Both the sides have great cricket records in Test cricket and both the sides have given thrilling competition in most of the series they have played. The West Indies will be looking forward to using this series as an avenue in which they can test their prowess against one of the strongest sides for the several years.ke
For now, Roach will receive a course of treatment and physical therapy with the view of being fully ready for the next series. The West Indies will soon be revealing who would be replacing him. However, for all the reasons, Roach is still one of the most dangerous bowlers at the international level, and his absence will be felt by his colleagues and fans.
