The former Australian cricketer Ricky Ponting expresses his concern about the recently selected Indian Captain, Shubman Gill, ahead of the India vs England test series. According to Ricky Ponting, Shubman Gill has a lot to improve his batting and bowling skills strategically.

The cricket commentator Ricky Ponting was perturbed about the new Indian captain, Shubman Gill, as he needs to concentrate as much on his test batting concerns. According to Ponting, being a captain, especially for a test series, will not be a piece of cake for Shubman Gill for the upcoming India vs England test series.
Ponting praised Gill’s performance at the same time, he urged Gill should focus on his test batting. In a recent interaction with PTI via NDTV, he stated that,
“His white ball form has been incredibly good. He’s got a little bit of work to do on his test match batting. And that’s never easy when you are a new captain, to have to worry about your batting to the degree that he is going to have to, it won’t be easy for him,”
Apart from that, a former Aussie cricketer suggested Indian the newly captain play for the test match against Australia when Rohit was not there. On this topic, he said,
“I named him as captain for the Sydney Test match last summer when Rohit did not play that game, and there was a bit of an injury cloud over Bumrah, or as that game went on, Bumrah broke down in that game,”
Ricky Ponting advises a change in Shubman Gill’s batting position
As in the test series, popular cricketer Virat Kohli would play as number four. However, Kohli won’t be here in the test match. So Gill can be seen as number four in the playground against England for the test series. Ponting advised Gill to play as four and as three; an experienced batter like KL Rahul or Karun Nair should play. India should play strategically. After being a honed captain, Gill can play as number three, according to Ponting. He quoted,
“The reason I did that was if they go with (yashasvi) Jaiwal, and if Sai Sudarshan is the other opener, they need someone a bit more experienced at number three. So that could be either KL at three, or that could be a Karun Nair at three and Shubman at four. Once you grow into it, then you can move yourself back up to that number three spot,”
Gill, in his test career, played 32 games and made 1893 runs. On the contrary, as a pacer, he took 7 wickets total out of 32 games. In this upcoming test series will be a fascinating match against England. As the Indian captain, Gill is going to captain India for the first time. Everyone’s eyes are on the Shubman Gill now.
