The former Australian Opening batsman Mark Taylor claimed Virat Kohli’s early retirement from the test series was his dismal performance during the test against Australia. According to him, Virat was indignant during the whole Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2025 after announcing his retirement from the test match.
Mark Taylor’s analysis of Virat Kohli’s recent batting dip in form
The former Aussie cricketer, AKA famous commentator Taylor, spoke about the reason behind Kohli’s early withdrawal. According to him, he witnessed an angry side of Virat Kohli during the Test series against Australia. He thinks, once someone gets angry, they should not remain there. On this subject, he quoted,
“Last year, I saw a different Virat Kohli [in Australia]. An angry one. And I have never seen an angry Virat Kohli. I have seen a very highly competitive Virat Kohli, and I love that about him. I always saw the gentleman. Last year, I saw a different Virat Kohli, and I said a month ago that it is time for him to retire. And he did. Because once you get angry, you’ve got to get out. And I think he realised that. If you start getting angry, you are gone,”
Apart from the ton in 1st Test match against Australia, Virat had a torrid run with the bat in hand. Virat Kohli scored 190 runs in 9 innings as again his off-stump channel weakness was exposed. Virat Kohli has been a vital cog in India’s Test cricket setup as his dip in form hurt the team immensely.
Mark Taylor recalls Virat Kohli’s interview
Mark Taylor reminisced about his interaction with Kohli during an interview. In a 2014 interview, Kohli calmly finished his interview with Mark Taylor despite his busy days. He quoted,
“I was lucky enough to interview him many years ago when he first came out as captain at the Adelaide Oval (2014). We had a half-hour time slot. We had this big interview lined up. Cameras everywhere. And about 25 minutes into it, the PA system kicked in around the ground and made a hell of a noise. I had a handful of questions left – three or four – and we had to stop the interview,”
Taylor also added that,
“He sat there in his chair and the media manager came out and said, ‘we got to get out of here’. Kohli got up, and as did I, to say goodbye. He looked at me and said ‘Mark, have you finished this interview?” And I said, No, but I understand you might have to go. He said, “No. We are going to finish this interview”. Now that was great respect to me, but also the game of Test match cricket,”
After Kohli’s early retirement from the test series, many of his fans were undoubtedly disappointed by his rushed decision (according to many). Although in his test career, he played well. Now the new Indian squad, without Kohli, will be playing against England.
