I am looking forward to O
India are all set to take on England in a five-match Test Series beginning from June 20, which will mark the start of their campaign in the World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27 cycle. Before the start of the series, Rohit Sharma and Virat Both announced their retirements from the longest format of the game. Jasprit Bumrah is a crucial member of the India squad for the England tour. However, it is confirmed that he will not play all five matches due to fitness issues. He too, has now dropped a massive retirement hint.
India’s star pacer Jasprit Bumrah recently opened up about the challenges of adapting to multiple formats, staying physically fit, and his enthusiasm for cricket’s addition to the Olympic Games. In a conversation with former Australian captain Michael Clarke on the Beyond23 Cricket Podcast, Bumrah talked about his path, the changes in international cricket and what he aims to do in the future.
In an interaction with former Australian Captain Michael Clarke on his Beyond 23 Podcast, Jasprit Bumrah said that players have to be selective and smart on how to use their bodies, and it is tough for an individual to go at the same intensity for a long period of time. He informed that his fitness is alright at present. However, the day he realizes that the drive to play more is gone or his body is not holding up to the rigors of the game, then he will call it quits on his illustrious career.
“It is tough for any individual to keep playing everything for so long. I have been doing it for a while. But eventually, you have to understand where your body is going and what the important tournaments are, so you have to be a little selective and smart about how you use your body. Obviously, as a cricketer, I would never want to leave anything and always keep on going,” added Bumrah.
Speaking further Jasprit Bumrah expressed his future plans and urge to represent his nation in all the formats of the game.
“This is a sport that I fell in love with. I went to Australia this time, and a lot of youngsters came up to me and tried to copy my [bowling] action. Which is surreal because I used to do that.
“So yeah, this journey will not always go on, but whenever it ends, I want to give it back to the sport. Because whatever I have and whatever I have learnt in life is through this sport. Thankful to the journey that I have had,” Bumrah told former Australia captain Michael Clarke on the Beyond23 Cricket Podcast.
Jasprit Bumrah acknowledged that although he has plenty more left to achieve – he has won one T20 World Cup, his only ICC tournament – he knows that amid the gruelling demand and rigours of international cricket, his career has a shelf life. Although Bumrah plays all three formats, along with the IPL, there will come a time when he will prioritise one or more formats more than the others and pick and choose even more carefully than he already does.
However, Jasprit Bumrah termed the desire to represent India in the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028 as a motivating factor for him. Cricket will be a part of LA 2028, a first for the sport since 1900.
“I’ve heard cricket is coming to the Olympics, and that’s something I’m really looking forward to. Who would’ve thought? It’s very exciting. I’m looking forward to that whenever we get an opportunity to do,” he added.
“I don’t set goals anymore because every time I have, I haven’t been able to fulfil them. I try to enjoy the game because that’s why I started playing it in the first place. I take it one day at a time and collect memories because at the end of it all, that’s what I’ll remember,” he concluded.
Indian cricket fraternity was left in awe earlier this month when two of the country’s biggest stalwarts, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, announced their retirement from Test cricket. The retirements of these two players, coupled with Ravichandran Ashwin’s shocking announcement during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, have broken the hearts of many Indian cricket fans.
In that case fans will only hope that star Indian speedster Jasprit Bumrah is managed well in future so that his career gets prolonged and the the fans can enjoy his swing bowling masterclass giving India various glories as India vs England enters into the new phase of transition.
