DC vs LSG: Vipraj Nigam’s Magnificent Knock & Inspiring Story

Vipraj Nigam is a 20 year old young leg-spinner from Uttar Pradesh who made his first impression to the cricketing world in UPT20 league. Vipraj Nigam  played for lucknow fellans and picked 20 wickets in 11 innings which earned him a cap in The Uttar Pradesh state team in all three formats. He performed well there as well and Delhi Capitals bought him for 50 Lakhs in the IPL 2025 season.

The first match for Delhi in this season was scheduled against Lucknow Super Giants at Vishakapatnam. It was a flat picth & everyone thought DC would likely go with their two prime spinners Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel. But they surprised everyone by including Vipraj in the starting X1.

Interestingly, Vipraj Nigam was a pure batter in his U-19 days. Then later he developed his bowling skills. He is working hard on his bowling and now has started to turn the ball as well, said by Kudeep Yadav. Even Kevin Pieterson, mentor of Delhi Capitals was also hyping him that he got some really good finishing skills and he proved that in the first match itself.

Vipraj Nigam’s powerful hitting stuns LSG

LSG batted first. Viparj justified his selection by removing Aiden Markram earlier in the powerplay. He would have also got Nicholos Pooran had if Sameer Rizvi didn’t dropped that sitter. LSG posted 209 runs on the board.

While chasing DC batters maintained the runrate but coudn’t control the wicket flow. They lost 6 wickets for 113 runs after 12 overs. The target seemed a little far from this situation. But Vipraj played a blinder and changed the momentum towards Delhi completely.

Vipraj Nigam created room and smashed every deliveries over the cover and extra cover region. He is more of an offside dominated player. Siddharth Manimaran charged a faster one in the pads, and he mistimed it and got caught. Earlier days for the young boy, if he learn the lesson quickly and improved his leg side hitting as well, then he could be an amazing asset for any team he plays. He scored 39 runs of just 15 balls and gave hopes to DC fans. Asutosh carried on the momentum and won the match in the final over.

Vipraj’s batting style reminds me of Rahul Tewatia and Wanindu Hasaranga. Hope this young lad also becomes a big name in the league and in international cricket like these two players.
