On a lively Friday evening at the M. A. Chidambaram Stadium, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) defeated Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by 5 wickets with 8 balls to spare in the 43rd match of IPL 2025. It was a night where questions loomed large — could CSK make it 6 wins in a row, just as Stephen Fleming had hinted? Or would SRH rise and eclipse the Super Kings under the Chepauk lights?
In the end, it was the latter. A gripping contest unfolded as both sides threw everything they had. And while it wasn’t about southpaws alone, it surely was about who held their nerve better on a slow Chennai track. SRH did just that — chasing down 155 with calm, control, and a hint of flair.
Let’s look at the match in a thrilling narration which was quite thrilling:
CSK’s MS Dhoni flipped it, SRH’s Pat Cummins owned it.
MS Dhoni flipped the coin under Chepauk’s sky,
The crowd went wild with a hopeful cry.
But Pat Cummins called it right that night,
And SRH took charge under the lights.
CSK missed Ruturaj’s steady hand,
But Dhoni stood tall, the face of the land.
With Rasheed, Rizvi, and Dube in line,
Jadeja and Curran hoped all would shine.
SRH had Head and Abhishek in flair,
Klaasen and Mendis, calm and rare.
With Cummins, Unadkat, Shami too,
They looked ready — fresh and new.
Early sparks for CSK, but Harshal’s magic kept SRH on top
Shaik Rasheed walked out, young and bold,
With Ayush Mhatre — just 17 years old.
But Shami was back, swinging from ball one,
A boundary, a bounce — then Rasheed was done.
Ayush played calmly, finding each gap,
While Curran came in with a little clap.
Boundaries rained for a short little while,
Until Harshal’s strike stole Curran’s smile.
Mhatre was steady, but Cummins struck,
Ishan’s sharp gloves — CSK out of luck.
Jadeja, the fighter, began with grace,
But Kamindu’s spin stopped his race.
Brevis came blazing, shot after shot,
While Dube joined in — gave it a lot.
But Kamindu again — what a moment to shine,
A diving grab, Brevis walked off the line.
Dube looked dangerous, clearing the ropes,
But found Abhishek, crushing their hopes.
Dhoni walked in, the Chepauk pride,
But Harshal and Abhishek turned the tide.
Kamboj, Noor — the tail didn’t wag,
SRH bowlers made the yellow flag sag.
Only Hooda fought, with a late-hit spark,
But Unadkat ended that little mark.
Abhishek Sharma took four fine grabs,
As wickets kept falling in little jabs.
From promise to pressure, the innings went down,
CSK all out — 154 was the crown.
SRH kept cool, CSK’s fight fell short.
SRH needed 155 under the Chennai lights,
Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma set their sights.
Khaleel Ahmed with the new ball in hand,
And first ball — Abhishek couldn’t stand.
Young Ayush Mhatre took the catch, sharp and low,
A start just like CSK’s early woe.
But Travis Head and Ishan Kishan began to fire,
Finding fours, lifting the Orange Army higher.
Head smashed one, clean down the track,
But Amshul Amboj flipped him out, bowled him back!
Gone for 19, the crowd went wild,
Chepauk believed — just for a while.
Heinrich Klaasen came out swinging strong,
A boundary first ball, didn’t last long.
Jadeja turned, Hooda grabbed,
Klaasen was gone, CSK fans clapped.
Aniket Sharma started hitting with might,
But Noor Ahmad spun out the fight.
Ishan Kishan fell, caught by Curran’s charge,
That ball had a magnet, pulling large!
Kamindu Mendis took charge from there,
Punished the wides with fearless flair.
Aniket fell too, Hooda again sure,
But Nitesh Kumar Reddy found a cure.
He sliced and diced through the tough CSK spell,
Kept the scoreboard moving — batted so well.
Calm and cool, under Chepauk’s glare,
Mendis and Reddy — a perfect pair.
Together they crossed the finish line bright,
And broke CSK’s unbeaten Chepauk night.
First ever win for SRH on this ground,
A night of dreams — a victory crowned!
