Mumbai Indians are known for finding talents for India. If they are putting their money on a player, we can assure that he will become great in the future. The MI talent scout found some gem players Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah, Tilak Varma, and Krunal Pandya. Against CSK, MI brought in a sly left-arm wrist spinner Vignesh Puthur as an impact player who bamboozled everyone.
Even players like Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel were part of Mumbai camp before they became big in other teams. They come with new surprises in every season. This year when everyone thought Robin Mins would be that sensation for MI who though couldn’t impress with the bat as he scored 3 runs in 9 balls which was his debut IPL match.
Vignesh Puthur stuns CSK
In the first match against Chennai at Chepauk, experts thought they would go with Afghan spinner Mujeeb ur Rahman along with Mitchell Santner. But they had other ideas. Batting first MI posted 155 runs on the board. In the second innings, MI rested their opener Rohit Sharma, and brought unknown candidate Vignesh Puthur into the game.
Vignesh is a left arm wrist spinner from Kerala. His father is an auto driver. He is yet to play for the senior team of Kerala. He represented Allepey Ripples for just three matches in the Kerala premier league but MI were impressed with his mystery bowling action and invited him for the selection trails.
After the trials they sent him as a net bowler for the MI Capetown for the SA 20 league and took care of all of his expenses. The experience he got there would have definitely helped him to perform in his debut game against the Arch rivals. His spell changed the game and brought MI back in the game. He took 3 crucial wickets of Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shivam Dube and Deepak Hooda and conceded 32 runs in his 4 over spell. It looked like every ball bowled by Vignesh was an event, he was getting drift and sharp turn.
Vignesh Puthur proved his worth in the first game and this unknown candidate became a sensation in overnight. Hope he gets more chances to play in this season and prove that he is not an one match wonder. His first spell yesterday reminded Mayank Markhande’s performance in the IPL opener at Wankhede against the same opponent in 2018. Even though MI lost the match against CSK but they gained a lot.
