CSK vs KKR: “Ruturaj Gaikwad Is Still Relatively Young In Captaincy”- Shane Watson Reflects On CSK Skipper’s Captaincy Tenure So Far

Ruturaj Gaikwad is at the center of attention in IPL 2025 as Chennai Super Kings (CSK) endure a tough start to the season. With three losses in four matches, fans and critics have questioned Ruturaj Gaikwad’s decision-making and leadership skills. Now in his second season as captain, Ruturaj Gaikwad navigates a wave of criticism and high expectations.

With Ruturaj Gaikwad ruled out of IPL 2025 with an elbow injury, the franchise has gone back to MS Dhoni to lead the side. CSK’s next encounter is against KKR, who have had a topsy-turvy run but also have played out of their skin. The clash of CSK vs KKR on 11th April can be mouth-watering.

Ruturaj Gaikwad Gets Support from Shane Watson

Despite CSK’s poor start, former CSK opener Shane Watson has voiced his support for Ruturaj Gaikwad, highlighting his potential and the learning curve he’s currently facing under the mentorship of cricket legends MS Dhoni and Stephen Fleming.

“Look, first of all, when it comes to Ruturaj’s captaincy, he is still relatively young in that role, and he would have learned a hell of a lot from last season… From what I have seen, he is just getting better and better. He is continuing to learn, and that is the kind of person Ruturaj is. The more experience he gets, the more he will grow,” Watson told India Today.

CSK’s Current Standings and What’s Ahead

So far, Ruturaj Gaikwad has scored 121 runs in four matches, with a best of 63. CSK currently sits in ninth place, having secured only one win. As they gear up for a crucial game against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), CSK needs to perform like a team rather than the openers Rachin Ravindra & Devon Conway carrying the burden of the team.

After a heart-breaking defeat against LSG, KKR needs to quickly regroup. The bowling attack of KKR looks quite fragile even in the presence of Varun Chakravarthy & Sunil Narine which is quite astonishing. The Chepauk surface is expected to be on a bit slower side where spinners of KKR & CSK can spin a web but pitches in IPL 2025 so far have been quite mysterious.
