CSK vs GT : Dewald Brevis Delighted With CSK Fans & Team

Dewald Brevis is a South African cricketer. He plays for the Titans in South African domestic cricket and for various Mumbai Indian-owned T20 franchises around the world. He is a right-handed batsmen and occasionally bowls leg spin. Dewald Brevis is also known as ‘Baby AB’ for his playing resemblance to AB de Villiers, although he has since expressed some dislike for the name. He holds the record for the highest score in T20 cricket in South Africa, and the fastest 150 in T20 cricket in the world.

Dewald Brevis, who was signed as a replacement player by Chennai Super Kings during the IPL 2025 season, may end up becoming one of their most enduring stars. The 22-year-old South African Dewald Brevis penned a heartfelt farewell message to the Super Kings squad and support staff after the five-time champions concluded their campaign.

Post his heroics In February 2022 in the domestic circuit ,  Dewald Brevis was bought by the Mumbai Indians who always had been famous for having an eye for the upcoming talent and grooming it to be the future star for their respective countries  in the 2022 Indian Premier League auction. He was retained by MI for the 2023 season.

Dewald Brevis played for St Kitts & Nevis Patriots in the 2022 edition of the CPL. In a game against the Trinbago Knight Riders he hit 5 sixes off 5 consecutive balls he faced. Brevis was signed by MI Cape Town for the inaugural season of the SA20 and scored 235 runs in 11 matches in that edition, and was retained for the 2023 edition. In July 2022, he was signed by the Kandy Falcons for the third edition of the Lanka Premier League.

He also played for MI New York in the inaugural 2023 season of the MLC in the USA. He scored an unbeaten 41 off 33 in the second qualifier to help MI New York reach the final, which they eventually won.

With so much experience of playing league cricket around the world and with the potential to become the next big thing in South African cricket  a lot was expected from a now matured Dewald Brevis when he got retained by the MI Cape Town franchise under the management of Robin Peterson having services of star batter Hashim Amla and legendary yorker specialist fast  bowler Lasith Malinga in their coaching team.

Previously with the Mumbai Indians in IPL 2022 and 2024, Dewald Brevis went unsold in the 2025 mega auction. However, CSK signed him as an injury replacement for Gurjanpreet Singh, following his standout performance in SA20, where he tallied 291 runs in 12 matches for MI Cape Town.

In his short but impactful stint, Dewald Brevis scored 225 runs in six matches at an impressive average of 37.50 and a staggering strike rate of 180. He played a crucial role in the middle order, injecting much-needed momentum into CSK’s faltering batting lineup.

Dewald Brevis penned a heartfelt farewell note to CSK following the end of their season. The 22-year-old South African star impressed after being signed as a replacement player midway through the campaign.

Taking to social media on Tuesday-two days after CSK wrapped up their season with a win over Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad- Dewald Brevis thanked the franchise for offering him an opportunity midway through the tournament. He also expressed gratitude to his teammates for the camaraderie, acknowledging how warmly he was welcomed into the group.

The rising South African talent praised the atmosphere at Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium and lauded Indian fans for creating an electric vibe throughout the tournament. Dewald Brevis shared a touching photo alongside MS Dhoni, who returned to lead CSK in the latter half of the season after regular captain Ruturaj Gaikwad was sidelined by injury.

“Thank you to Chennai management, coaches, and everyone involved for believing in me and giving me the opportunity to do what I love – PLAYING CRICKET.

A special thank you to my teammates for making me feel welcome from day one. And to all our incredible fans in India, you were amazing. The atmosphere and support at Chepauk were unforgettable. I hope to be back soon,” Brevis wrote.

Following the additions of Dewald Brevis, Ayush Mhatre, and Urvil Patel-all signed as injury replacements-CSK’s batting unit showed renewed spark and resilience, giving fans hope that the 2026 season could bring better results. CSK have the option to retain all three players ahead of the mini-auction later this year.

The Super Kings ended their IPL 2025 campaign with just four wins in 14 matches, finishing at the bottom of the points table for the first time in their history.
