Australia batter Travis Head has dismissed suggestions that there is a rift in the camp following their Perth Test loss to India. The hosts were outplayed by India in the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and they ended up losing the match by 295 runs. Speculations had come in after Josh Hazlewood’s comments at the end of Day 3 of the match in Perth.

Speculations of rift in the Australian dressing room amidst defeat vs India

The premier Aussie pacer Josh Hazlewood looked frustrated with the performance of the batters in the Perth Test against India and when asked to share views on that, he said ‘You probably have to ask one of the batters that question. ‘These remarks sparked speculations of the rift in the Australian dressing room as the legendary wicketkeeper-batsman Adam Gilchrist opined that there was a divide in the team between the batters and bowlers.

The former England captain Michael Vaughan suggested that there were internal tensions in the Australian camp and expressed his shock at the comments made by Josh Hazlewood. Recently, the Test skipper Pat Cummins and pace spearhead Mitchell Starc were also asked questions related to a rift in the dressing room, and they quashed all the rumors.

Travis Head is the latest Australian cricketer to deny any rift between the players after the 295-run defeat in the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 against India. The left-handed batter claimed that there was no friction, and the players went out together.

Australian middle-order batter Travis Head has joined captain Pat Cummins in denying any rift between the players following a humiliating defeat in the first Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 Test against India in Perth. The southpaw has asserted that there are no frictions within the side and that they hung out together.

With Josh Hazlewood appearing for the presser after Day 3 of the first Test, his comment of ‘you have to ask the batters’ caused a stir when asked how Australia will approach the mammoth run chase. Former cricketers Michael Vaughan and Ravi Shastri reckoned that there were some cracks in the Aussie camp.

Speaking to 7news, Travis Head denied any dressing room rift and asserted:

“I think (people have) picked the bones out of a comment on the back of a poor week, which is fine. It’s OK to be critical, we understand that. We stuck together, had some good conversations, definitely no fractions. All the boys hung out together last night.”

The South Australian emerged as their best batter from their side amid a chastening 295-run defeat in Perth. The southpaw scored a brisk 89 in the second innings before edging one off Jasprit Bumrah to Rishabh Pant behind the stumps.

Travis Head shares his opinion ahead of 2nd BGT 2024-25 Test

While Travis Head acknowledged Australia’s impeccable record in pink-ball Tests in Adelaide, he feels the hosts cannot get their guard down. Australia have won 11 pink-ball matches out of 12 Tests so far, but Travis Head feels the team can’t relax ahead of the day-night Test against India in Adelaide.

The 30-year-old stated:

“We play the pink ball well traditionally there and look we’re going to have to. There’s no hiding behind that, we’ve got to play better. Nothing’s guaranteed in this game, but if we work hard, no reason why we can’t turn it around.”

The last time India and Australia played a pink-ball Test in Adelaide, the home side won by eight wickets. However, Cummins and company must play out of their skins to level the series in Adelaide. The second Test of the two-match series between India and Australia is set to start on December 6 in Adelaide, and it will be the pink-ball day-night Test.
