Travis Head finally breaks the silence upon a possible rift in the dressing room. Given that Australia was 12/3 chasing 534 on day four of the Perth Test, Josh Hazlewood was asked how they approached the match. He requested that the team’s batters be asked the question. “You probably have to ask one of the batters that question probably, I am sort of relaxing and trying to get a bit of treatment, and I am looking mostly to next Test,” Hazlewood had said.

Despite Josh Hazlewood’s polarising remarks following the crushing defeat in the Perth Test, Travis Head asserted that there was “no bad blood” between Australian bowlers and hitters. Rather, Head stated that the Australians will keep trying to overcome obstacles by helping one another, as they have done.

In Perth, Hazlewood was Australia’s best bowler. The home team lost the match after conceding 487 runs in the third innings following a 46-run gap in the first innings scores. When asked about Australia’s ambitions for a comeback during the post-match conference, Hazlewood said that reporters should interview the batters about it.

When Hazelwood was ruled out of the second Test in Adelaide, which started on Friday, December 6, because of a side strain, rumours of the “rift” circulated. His comments, according to some home fans, cost him a spot in the eleven.

Travis Head cleared the air about the “rift” rumours

Travis Head breaks his silence on the ongoing rumours on the rift in the dressing room.

“Batters want to hold our own … we know how good our bowlers have been in the past,” Head told reporters on Monday.

“Knowing that if I can set it up for the big boys, they can knock it down for us, so definitely no bad blood. I feel like this team has dealt with adversity well, with the small amount that we’ve had in the last three or four years,”

“We’ve had some challenging times, we had a couple of challenging Tests last year that we were able to get ourselves out of. Our heads aren’t in the clouds, we understand a few Tests last year could’ve gone either way,” he added

Scott Boland, who’s making an injury comeback after four months, is touted to be the most likely replacement for Hazelwood.

Travis Head was the finest Australian batsman in Perth and the only player to score over 50 runs, including 89 and 101 in the last innings. However, he gave no advice to his colleagues on how Adelaide could get better.

“(The other batters) are not coming to me for batting tips, that’s for sure. Everyone goes about it in different ways … we’re all supporting each other … we’ll have a chat over the next three or four days,” Head told reporters.

Australia would miss Hazlewood either way. He’s the third-highest wicket taker in pink-ball Tests and has the best bowling average for those with at least 15 wickets in Adelaide at an average of 16.82.
