Recently, the former Indian wicket-keeper Dinesh Karthik talked about the retirement of the Indian seniors after the series defeat against New Zealand. He pointed out that it is too early to talk about retirements.
In the wake of the series defeat against New Zealand, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma and his team faced a lot of criticism from everywhere and asked for the retirements of the senior players.
India faced a first ever whitewash in a test series in their history after they lost the three match series against New Zealand by 3-0, which also put a break on the unbeaten streak of 18 series at home in the last 12 years.
‘What is the hurry boss?’ – Dinesh Karthik
In an interaction with Cricbuzz, Dinesh Karthik was answering a query on the retirement of senior players after their poor show against New Zealand which ultimately cost us the series.
“What is the hurry boss? One bad series and already calling for the heads. I don’t think so. I think, if they don’t do well in the next 10 Test matches, then we will come back to this question and then it becomes a fair question, considering it’s going to be another domestic season. For the moment, I don’t think we need to group anyone anywhere,” he said.
It is not hidden that the likes of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin had an unforgettable series against the Kiwis. They all have failed to perform as per their potential.
Spin became a real concern for India, says Dinesh Karthik
Karthik also acknowledged the problem while facing spin bowling. He expressed his concern over this issue especially at home, players faced a lot of difficulties to play spin bowlers.
“Our bowling was not up to the mark. Our spinners, especially the experienced ones, didn’t have a great series. Batting, without a doubt, we lack in ability to play spin. The defence game overall around the world has definitely decreased because of the white-ball formats and that goes without saying but the Indian players have struggled to cope against spin,” Karthik added in the same interaction.
With the series loss against the Blackcaps at home by 0-3, Men in Blue finds themselves in a very difficult situation, they have to win all the remaining matches to qualify for the World Test Championship final, which is set to be played in England next year. As of now, it seems quite difficult for Team India but it is not impossible as they have already done in Past. The first Test match of the series is set to be played in Perth from November 22 at Optus Stadium. In the absence of the Indian skipper Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah is ready to take up the leadership role.
