Pat Cummins recently spoke about the move in the batting order and about the decision to go with Steve Smith at No. 4 which is his treasured position. The 35-years-old had moved to open the innings for the team after the retirement of David Warner. Pat Cummins has an uphill challenge infront of him as India would be eyeing to register a hat-trick of Test series wins in Australia after winning in 2018-19 & 2020-21.
However, Smith’s term as a test opener came to an prematured end which lasted for 9 months only. He has scored only one half-century at this position but with the unvailiblity of Cameron Green who used to bat at No. 4, the team management has decided to change in the batting order of the former Australian captain and let him bat at his est suited position.

The 31-years-old openly talked about their conversation after Green’s news. The chief selector George Bailey was also involved in several discussion and finally they all came on the same conclusion.
“Yeah we had a chat … we probably still hadn’t made our mind up and we knew there was a bit of water to go under the bridge. Also with Cam’s injury and a few rounds of Shield games … we chatted about it and I think it makes sense now. He was really excited by the challenge of opening last year and he’s really glad he did it, but I think after giving it a go, he thought he was best suited at four,” he said.
Cameron Green has performed exceptionally well at No. 4 and was ready to continue in the five-match Test series against India this summer.
The Australian captain is impressed by the performance of the 19-years-old
He said that Sam is very young and the way he has performed is very impressive. If he performs consistanly like this you never know you may see a national call-up for him in the coming future.
“I’ve seen a little bit of Sam. He obviously played really well last week, but he’s young and you really don’t know what someone is made of until they’re out there. If you keep scoring runs and doing well in domestic cricket it sets you up pretty well,” he added.
The youngster has scored twin century in the very recent match of the Shieffield Shield for New South Wales.
Cummins also announced his return to the game from white ball series against Pakistan, starting on November 4.
