Ex-India captain Kris Srikkanth believes current white-ball skipper Rohit Sharma will quit Test cricket should he fail in the 2024-25 BGT in Australia. The 37-year-old has struggled lately in Test cricket and currently averages under 14 over his last 10 Test innings.

Rohit has passed fifty plus only once in that span which has raised eyebrows about his Test prospects. To this misfortune, there is further disappointment of seeing his team India being whitewashed 0-3 in a home Test series for the first time ever to New Zealand.
However the youngster at 37 Rohit is not a spring chicken any more and if the going gets tough in the Australia Tests Srikkanth believes the champion batter could play only ODIs.
“You have to start thinking ahead (if India doesn’t do well in Australia). If Rohit Sharma doesn’t do well, I think he himself will retire from Test cricket, for all you know. He will play ODIs only. He has already left T20I cricket. We have to keep in mind that he is also ageing. He is no longer getting younger,” he said on his YouTube channel.

Rohit has countered this by admitting his weaknesses as captain and a batter during the New Zealand series, according to Srikkanth.
“At least, Rohit Sharma had the guts. Hats off to Rohit Sharma for accepting the fact that he played badly throughout the series and captained badly. That’s a great thing. That’s the first move of a player to get back to the rhythm. Accepting your fault is very important. That’s a very important quality of a human being. He accepted it openly and that means he is on the road to recovery, that’s my opinion,” he stated.

Rohit has not had the best of time of the late but has been excellent in Test cricket where he averages over 42 runs per match from 64 matches and has 4270 runs to his name.
Echoing the sentiments captain praised fast bowler Ishant Sharma and opined that Virat Kohli is the perfect player to come good in the upcoming series against Australia while he does not agree with those talking about India moving on from the star batsman in the longer format.
Even Kohli like Rohit faced a string series against New Zealand where he only manage to score 15.50 in three Test matches. Nevertheless, the 35-year-old has been out of form in Tests throughout this year, averaging only 22.72 in six matches.
India’s last four Test series wins have been on the trot and out of these two have been achieved in Australian soil and hence the similar form is expected to continue. The spectacular motor-mouth five-Test series is set to get underway on November 22 at the WACA in Perth.
