Yashasvi Jaiswal’s rise to ranks after brilliant show in 1st test at Optus Perth

Hailed as one of Indian cricket’s brightest young talents, the 22-year-old Yashasvi Jaiswal made a dazzling start to his Test career. He cemented his spot in the team with a stunning performance against England earlier this year.

Playing his first Test Down Under,  Yashasvi Jaiswal left an indelible impression with a remarkable 161 in the second innings as India defeated Australia to take a 1-0 lead in the five-match series.

His knock in Perth was his fourth century in just 15 Tests. The southpaw has converted each of those tons into a 150 score. Yashasvi Jaiswal has so far collected 1,568 runs at an impressive average of 58.07, and his ability to bounce back from a first-innings duck in Perth showcased his resilience and class.

Yashasvi Jaiswal’s century, his fourth in the longest format, came in the second innings as he played uncharacteristically, giving respect to the conditions and the famed Australian bowling line-up. He showed grit and determination to see off the new ball.

As he got set at the crease, the southpaw blended caution with aggression and ended with a brilliant 161 off 297 balls. Yashasvi Jaiswal hit 15 fours and three sixes to help the tourists set Australia an improbable fourth innings target of 534. The Jasprit Bumrah-led side bowled out the hosts for 238 to win the match by 295 runs.

Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has heaped praise on Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal, predicting a glittering future for the young star.

Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell praised young Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal, predicting that he will score over 40 Test centuries after his heroics in the opening Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test at Perth. After a duck in his first Test innings Down Under, Jaiswal responded with a breathtaking 161 in the second innings to help India pull off a massive 295-run win.

The 22-year-old has had a sensational start to his Test career. He averages over 58, with four centuries and eight fifties in only 15 outings.

Speaking about Jaiswal on The Grade Cricketer podcast, Maxwell said:

“Jaiswal doesn’t seem to have many weaknesses, plays a short ball well, drives well, plays spin unbelievably well and can absorb pressure for periods of time. He’s a guy that’s probably going to get more than 40 Test hundreds and re-write some different records as well,”

Yashasvi Jaiswal shared a 201-run opening stand with KL Rahul in the second innings – India’s first-ever double-century opening partnership in a Test in Australia. The youngster has displayed his hunger for big centuries early in his career, with all four centuries being converted to 150+ scores and two resulting in double tons.

Yashasvi Jaiswal has scored 1568 runs from 15 matches at a staggering average of 58.07 with four hundreds and eight fifties to his name. He will hope to build on his century in the remaining matches in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy as India look to reach their third World Test Championship (WTC) finals

Glenn Maxwell heaps praise on Jasprit Bumrah post India’s thumping win over Australia

Glenn Maxwell also reserved special praise for Jasprit Bumrah, stating that the ace pacer could become the greatest fast bowler in history.

The 30-year-old starred with the ball for India in the Perth Test win, picking up eight wickets across the two innings. Bumrah also led the side in Rohit Sharma’s absence and was named the Player of the Match for his incredible bowling display.

“Bumrah is going to go down as potentially the best fast bowler of all time, maybe not with the amount of wickets he takes in every format. But for the guys that have played against him, it is just so difficult, so difficult. He’s just got such unique action, unique ability with the ball. He seems like a complete package,” said Maxwell.

He continued:

“It almost feels like his bouncer and his length ball are very similar to where his release point is, and it’s really hard to pick up the difference between those. The ball always feels like it’s coming back into you and he’s got the ability to take the ball away, which just makes it extremely difficult,”

Jasprit Bumrah boasts the second-best Test bowling average in history (20.06) among bowlers with at least 150 wickets, behind only Sydney Barnes of England. He has an incredible 11 five-wicket hauls in 43 Tests, with a strike rate under 44.
