BAN VS WI: West Indies Complete Historic Whitewash with Impressive Win.

West Indies once again came out all guns blazing and outplayed Bangladesh even after losing the toss. West Indies were determined and played the better game than Bangladesh and deserved the win in the end. Bangladesh posted 151 all out in 20 overs with Tanzid Hasan scoring 89 and others playing around him. Romario Shepherd picked up 3 wickets which included a hat-trick.

In reply, riding on a fast start from Amir Jangoo and sparkling fifties from captain Roston Chase and Ackeem Auguste, the visitors got to the target in 16.5 overs and won by 5 wickets to complete a historic whitewash and deservingly so.

Tanzid Hasan’s sublime 89 helps Bangladesh get to a competitive 151 in 20 overs. 

Winning the toss and deciding to bat first, Tanzid Hasan and Parvez Hossain Emon came out to bat for Bangladesh while Jason Holder had ball in hand for West Indies. Jason thought he had Tanzid LBW first ball, but the umpire said no and the West Indies burnt their review. Tanzid got off the mark in delightful fashion by opening the face of the bat to deep third man and then flicked it nicely towards deep fine leg for a boundary.

Akeal Hosein came onto bowl from the other end. Emon got off the mark in style as he got down on one knee and slog swept it with the turn over deep square leg for the maximum. Romario Shepherd came into the attack next as Tanzid got a top edge over the fine leg region for a boundary. Tanzid was given a reprieve as Holder dropped a dolly at mid-off off Shepherd’s bowling.

Captain for the day Roston Chase came into the attack and got rid of Emon for 9 off 10 balls with a maximum to his name. Chase from around the wicket dropped the ball a tad short outside the off-stump. Emon got low a tad and flashed at it looking to cut over backward point but ended up giving an easy catch to Motie at backward point. Captain Litton Das came out to bat next and got off the mark with a boundary past mid-on.

Holder returned to the attack as Tanzid stayed inside the crease and slapped it across the line and played it to left of mid-on and the ball trickled away to the fence for a boundary. Tanzid was adjudged LBW off Holder as the finger was raised. But it was challenged by the batter as the ball pitched down the leg side as the decision was overturned. Hosein came to bowl the last over of powerplay as Tanzid took toll of a poor ball and slogged it over deep backward square leg for the maximum. At the end of the powerplay, Bangladesh were 40/1 and off to a steady start.

Chase continued after the powerplay and bowled a decent over. Khary Pierre was introduced into the attack next. Pierre removed Litton Das the captain for 6 off 9 balls with a boundary to his name. Pierre dropped the ball short that turned away outside the off-stump. Litton pulled against the turn and got a good meat on it but ended up hitting it flat and straight down the throat of deep midwicket fielder who took a regulation catch. Saif Hassan came out to bat next and got off the mark soon.

Chase continued as Saif got down on one knee and slog swept it over deep midwicket for the maximum. The 50 came up for Bangladesh in 8.5 overs. Pierre continued as Tanzid played a cracking shot by bending his back knee and smashed down the ground for a boundary. Tanzid went again as he took on Pierre by slog sweeping down on one knee as the ball cleared the distance. At the completion of 10 overs at the halfway stage of the innings. Bangladesh were 67/2 as players took Drinks Break.

Shepherd returned after the break as Tanzid stayed leg side and cut it to deep backward point for a boundary. Tanzid then crunched it away to pull it to deep backward point region for a boundary. The next ball was crunched off the back-foot by pulling it to deep midwicket for a boundary. Tanzid reached his half century off 36 balls and is into his 10th T20I fifty.

Gudakesh Motie came into the attack now as Tanzid got to the pitch of the ball and lofted over deep extra covers for the maximum. Tanzid got another reprieve as Powell put it down a relatively tough chance. Roston Chase came back into the attack. The 50-run stand came up between these two young players. Akeal Hosein returned to the attack and bowled a quiet over. Holder came back into the attack as Bangladesh put up 100 in the 15th over. Saif then picked the length early and pulled it away over deep square leg for the maximum.

Jason hit back and got rid of Saif for 23 off 22 balls with 2 sixes to her name. Holder bowled short again around the off-stump. Saif went for the pull short again but failed to control it as he got a top edge that went high in the air towards deep backward square leg. Ackeem Auguste settled underneath it and took the catch. Rishad Hossain came out to bat next and got off the mark straightaway. Bangladesh were 109/3 in 15 overs.

Pierre returned to the bowling crease as Tanzid just about cleared Powell at long-on for the maximum. Tanzid cleared his front leg and launched it over long-on as the ball went over Powell for the maximum. Pierre then removed Rishad for 3 off 3 balls. Pierre bowled full and darted at the middle and leg stump. Rishad cleared his front leg and looked to go for the big hit down the ground. He missed it and got wrapped on the back pad. This looked OUT and Rishad walked as well. Nurul Hasan came out to bat next.

Shepherd continued as Tanzid hit the low full toss on the leg stump, Tanzid flicked it away to deep midwicket for a boundary. Shepherd next got rid of Nurul for 1 off 3 balls. Shepherd bowled full and on the stumps, Nurul decided to take it on and went for the big hit down the ground. He didn’t get the timing right and ball went high in the air to the left of long-on where Powell ran across a few yards and dived to complete the catch. Nasum Ahmed came out to the middle next.

Akeal Hosein came back for his final over. Tanzid smashed it by going deep in his crease and pulled it in the gap between long-on and deep midwicket. Akeal then got rid of Nasum Ahmed for 1 off 3 balls. He bowled full outside off-stump. Nasum went for the big hit down the ground and mistimed it and it went into the throat of Powell. Jaker Ali walked out to bat next. Holder continued as Jaker cleared his front leg and heaved it across the line as Athanaze was late to start as the ball raced away to the fence. Holder then removed Jaker for 5 off 3 balls with a boundary to his name.

Holder bowled a full toss on the off-stump. Jaker bent low and looked to whip it away but missed it. He got hit on the front pad. The umpire raised the finger. Jaker reviewed in hope and three reds meant he had to go as Bangladesh lost their review. Mahedi Hasan came out to bat next. Shepherd was tasked to bowl the final over of the innings and he removed the form batter Tanzid Hasan for 89 off 62 balls with 9 fours and 4 sixes to his name.

Shepherd from around the wicket bowled short of a length outside off-stump. Tanzid backed away and looked to flat bat it over mid-off and didn’t get the timing right and picked out Holder who made no mistake. Shoriful Islam came and faced the hat-trick ball and he did it by completing the hat-trick. Shepherd from over the wicket bowled yorker length delivery aiming at the base of the middle stump. Shoriful backed away and looked to squeeze it through the off-side, but has no chance of getting his bat to it. The ball goes under the bat and hits the stumps.

Taskin Ahmed came out to bat next and got off the mark with a brace. Taskin backed away and pulled it away over deep square leg for the maximum. Taskin was run out for 9 off 4 balls with a maximum to his name while coming back for the second run and in the end got in the side. Bangladesh were bowled out for 151 in 20 overs. 5 extras given by the fielding side.

It was a hard toil for the Indian bowlers with Romario Shepherd completing a hat-trick finishing with 3/36 in 4 overs. Jason Holder chipped in with 2/32 in 4 overs. Roston Chase chipped in with 1/23 in 4 overs. Akeal Hosein chipped in 1/26 in 4 overs. Motie bowled an over for 11 runs. This meant that West Indies now needed 152 runs to win and complete the whitewash against Bangladesh.

Sparking fifties from Roston Chase and Ackeem Auguste takes West Indies over the line. 

Chasing 152 runs to complete the whitewash, Alick Athanaze came out to open with Amir Jangoo for West Indies while Mahedi Hasan had ball in hand for Bangladesh. Mahedi bowled a decent first over. Shoriful Islam had ball in hand from the other end. Jangoo had a reprieve as the edge went in between Litton and Saif. Shoriful also bowled a tight over. Mahedi continued and then got rid of Athanaze for 1 off 8 balls.

Mahedi bowled a full delivery outside the off-stump line that turned away off the surface. Athanaze stepped down the track and looked to go big down the ground and didn’t get to the pitch of the ball and got beaten on the outside edge as Litton was too quick behind the stumps. He whipped off the bails in a flash as replays confirmed it was OUT. Brandon King came out to bat next.

Shoriful continued as Jangoo stood tall and lofted it over mid-on for a boundary. Jangoo got a reprieve as Hridoy the substitute fielder dropped the catch of Jangoo at mid-off. King then powerfully hit down the ground straight as an arrow for the boundary. Taskin Ahmed came into the attack next as Jangoo welcomed him with a maximum as the batter flicked it over deep square leg for the maximum. Jangoo hit Taskin by getting on top of the bounce and punched it between cover and cover point for a boundary. Jangoo was on a roll as he waited and pulled it to the left of midwicket for a boundary. Jangoo tore Taskin apart as got on top of the bounce and pulled it away to deep square leg for a boundary. 18 runs off the over.

Nasum Ahmed was introduced to bowl the final over of powerplay. King rocked back and pulled it away to vacant deep midwicket region for a boundary. Nasum then got rid of King for 8 off 7 balls with 2 fours to his name. Nasum bowled an arm ball on a length outside off-stump and bowled it flatter and quicker that skidded on the surface and hurried the batter. King again backed away and looked to pull but got beaten on the inside edge and the ball cannoned into the top of the stumps. Captain Roston Chase came out to bowl next.

West Indies were 37/2 in 6 overs at the end of the powerplay. Steady going need to score more though. Mahedi returned as Chase launched into him by hitting with a straight bat over long-on for the maximum. Rishad Hossain came into the attack next. Jangoo hung back and cut the short ball behind square on the off-side as the ball won the race. Rishad hit back and got rid of Jangoo for 34 off 23 balls with 5 fours and a maximum to her name.

Rishad bowled full and tossed up delivery at the middle stump leg break. Jangoo stepped down and looked to flick out but missed it on the inside edge and got wrapped on the front pad. There is fair delivery and ball tracking showed three reds and the review was lost. Rishad got the breakthrough. Ackeem Auguste came out to bat next. He got off the mark soon. Taskin returned to the attack as Auguste took him to the cleaners by whipping off his pads and got it from the deep midwicket fence for the maximum.  Chase was then dropped as Chase got a life with Shoriful dropping a tough chance.

Rishad then hit Auguste by stepping down the track and slapped it to deep cover point for a boundary. West Indies at the completion of 10 overs were 77/3 chasing 126 for the win. Mahedi returns to the bowling  crease. He bowled a tight over, but others never allowed the pressure to build as such. Nurul Hasan hurt his shin and has been taken off the field injured. Nasum continued as Chase made room and got underneath it and got inside out with a clean lofted drive over extra covers for a boundary.

Chase hit this through the hands of Nasum as the batter thumped him over the bowler’s head for a boundary. Auguste took on Rishad finally from over the wicket and the flighted delivery but in the slot on the middle stump line. Auguste got on the front foot and got under it. He flicked it high and handsome over midwicket for the maximum. Auguste was dropped next as Tanzim Hasan Sakib dropped a sitter at extra cover as the 100 came up for West Indies in 12.2 overs.

Auguste took the attack to Rishad smashing him for back-to-back sixes first over cow corner and then over deep midwicket for the maximum. 21 runs came off this Rishad over. Nasum continued as Auguste got down on one knee and slog swept it over deep midwicket for the maximum. Auguste got to his fifty in just 24 balls . This is his maiden fifty. Chase also hit Nasum by making room on the leg side as the batter flicked it away bisecting long-on and deep midwicket for a boundary.

Taskin returned to the attack as Chase backed away and cut it past backward point for a boundary. Chase hit another boundary as the high full toss as he managed to free his arms now and smashed it aerially over wide of mid-on for a boundary. Chase reached his fifty in 28 balls. This was his 4th T20I fifty. West Indies were cruising at 143/3 in 15 overs now.

Rishad came back and got rid of Chase for 50 off 29 balls with 5 fours and a maximum to his name. Rishad from over the wicket that was a googly on a length outside the off-stump as the ball spun back as well as the bowler Chase was looking to play off the back foot without moving his feet. He looked to work it across the line and was beaten all ends up. The book sneaked past the inside edge and rattled the stumps. Rovman Powell came out to bat next and got off the mark straightaway. Rishad got rid of Auguste for 50 off 25 balls with one four and 5 sixes to his name.

Rishad tossed it up on the leg stump a googly. Auguste got down on one knee and went for the favourite slog sweep and hits it well but finds Mahedi Hasan at deep backward square leg who took a fine catch as the ball was travelling to him very quickly. Gudakesh Motie came out to bat next. He got off the mark with a brace soon. Taskin continued as Powell hit the winning runs being unbeaten on 5 off 5 balls with Motie unbeaten on 3 off 4 balls. Just one extra given by the hosts as West Indies won the game by 5 wickets with 3.1 overs to spare to complete the whitewash.

Rishad Hossain picked up 3 wickets for 43 runs in 4 overs. Mahedi Hasan bowled well for his 1/18 in 4 overs. Nasum Ahmed finished with 1/29 in 3 overs. Shoriful Islam went for 12 in 2 overs. Taskin Ahmed gave away 50 runs in 3.5 overs. So, West Indies win by 5 wickets with 19 balls to spare to win series 3-0. Roston Chase was awarded Player of the Match while Romario Shepherd was awarded the Player of the Series.

So, with that we come to end of this series with West Indies taking the T20I series 3-0 while the ODI series was won by Bangladesh by 2 matches to 1.
