Veteran bowler Taijul Islam stepped up with the ball and completed his memorable 6-wicket haul as hosts Bangladesh upstaged a spirited Pakistan side by 78 runs to win the series 2-0. This is Bangladesh’s 4th consecutive win against Pakistan, having beaten the Men in Green in Pakistan 2-0 as well two years ago. It’s a fantastic achievement, and fair to say that, looking at this Test match, Bangladesh played the better game and deserved the win.
Pakistan had their moments throughout the Test match, from having Bangladesh struggling to letting them off the hook. Then they put in a below-par batting performance in the first innings. Thereafter, Pakistan had to toil a lot and had to chase 437 for a record win. The visitors tried and showed character, but in the end, it was a bridge too far as Pakistan were bowled out for 358 to lose the game by 78 runs.
Litton Das’ excellent ton under pressure rescues Bangladesh to put up 278 in 77 overs
Put into bat first, Mahmudul Hasan Joy and Tanzid Hasan, the debutants, opened the batting for Bangladesh while Mohammad Abbas had the ball in hand for Pakistan. Joy fell early for a silver duck. Mominul Haque came out to bat next to join Tanzid. Both got starts but could not kick on. The duo put on 44 for the second wicket before Tanzid, the debutant, fell for 26 off 34 balls with 3 fours to his name to Mohammad Abbas. Najmul Hossain Shanto came out to bat next.
Shanto too got going as he and Mominul added 19 runs for the third wicket before Mominul fell for 22 off 41 balls with 3 fours to his name to Khurram Shahzad. Mushfiqur Rahim, the veteran batter, came out to bat next. Rahim and Shanto got together and forged an important partnership. Mehidy Hasan Miraz came out to bat next. He did not last long either, as 6 more runs were added to the score before Miraz fell for 4 off 6 balls to Shahzad. Taijul Islam came to the crease with Bangladesh in all sorts of trouble at 116/6. This is where Litton Das stood up and was counted. He batted with the lower order batters and was brilliant to say the least. The way he counter-attacked was great to see. Taijul supported him by staying there as much as he could.
The duo added 60 crucial runs for the 7th wicket before Taijul’s resistance ended, and he fell for 16 off 40 balls with 2 fours to his name. Taskin Ahmed came out to bat next. Litton took over now and did the bulk of the scoring in this 8th wicket stand. He was playing a gem knock that would give Bangladesh some hope. Babar Azam’s 68 was the only bright spot as Bangladesh chipped away at wickets to keep Pakistan down to 232 in 57.4 overs

Pakistan got off to a steady start in the chase. The opening duo added 27 runs for the first wicket before Fazal was the first one to depart for 6 off 28 balls, with one four to his name to Nahid Rana. Captain Shan Masood came out to bat next. Awais and Masood added 14 runs for the second wicket before Awais fell for 21 off 49 balls with 2 fours to his name to Miraz. Babar Azam came out to bat next.
Shan and Babar then forged a partnership to show Pakistan’s fight out there. Sajid and Rizwan forged a frustrating partnership for the hosts.
The duo added a valuable but important 54-run stand for the 8th wicket before Sajid fell for 28 off 36 balls with 5 fours to his name to Taijul, who completed his five-wicket haul. Khurram Shahzad came out to bat next. The score remained at 358 when Bangladesh got the biggest and clinching wicket of the match and series as Rizwan was finally dismissed for 94 off 166 balls with 10 fours to his name to Shoriful Islam, as Miraz took a great catch to redeem himself. Mohammad Abbas came to the crease next.

Soon, the winning moment came on Day 5. It was Shahzad who went for the big one and was caught in the deep as Taijul picked up his 6th wicket. Shahzad fell for 0 off 6 balls. So, Bangladesh beat Pakistan by 78 runs and completed the clean sweep 2-0 for the second time in a row against the Men in Green. Litton Das was awarded the Player of the Match, and Mushfiqur Rahim was awarded the Player of the Series.
