BAN VS NED: Nasum Ahmed’s 3-Wicket Haul Helps Bangladesh To An Easy Series Win.

Nasum Ahmed had a point to prove after he was inserted into this game in place of Rishad Hossain. He was determined to prove a point and leave an everlasting impact on the game. Nasum Ahmed did exactly that with his guile and spin as his 3/21 floored Netherlands. Nasum Ahmed’s 3/21 alongside Taskin Ahmed’s 2/22 and Mustafizur Rahman’s 2/18 helped Bangladesh skittle out Netherlands for 103 after the hosts won the toss again and elected to bowl first.

In reply, it was a formality for Bangladesh as Parvez Hossain Emon scored 23 off 21 balls while Tanzid Hasan guided the chase with his unbeaten 54 off 40 balls while Litton Das was unbeaten on 18 off 18 balls as Bangladesh got over the line in 13.1 overs winning by 9 wickets with 41 balls left to take a winning 2-0 lead in the series. It was another series win for Litton Das as captain as Bangladesh are the right momentum ahead of Asia Cup 2025.

Nasum Ahmed’s 3/21 skittles Netherlands out for 103. 

Put into bat first, Max O’Dowd and Vikramjit Singh came out to open the batting for Netherlands while Mahedi Hasan had ball in hand for Bangladesh. Max started off on the right note flicking Mahedi past diving backward point fielder for a boundary. Vikramjit survived a run out scare as well. Taskin Ahmed was given the ball from the other end. Vikramjit crisply hit a boundary through covers for a boundary as well.

Nasum Ahmed came into the attack next. He struck straightaway removing Max O’Dowd for 8 off 10 balls with a boundary to his name. He bowled a length delivery on the stumps turning away a tad. Max stayed back and swung across the line but miscued it straight up in the air. Hridoy at mid-on settled underneath it and took it safely. Teja Nidamanuru came to the crease next and fell for a golden duck to Nasum who was now on a hat-trick.

Nasum bowled it a tad short around off-stump line, the batter got low and cut it but failed to keep it along the ground as the ball flew straight to backward point where Emon made no mistake. Scott Edwards the captain came in and negotiated the hat-trick ball by getting off the mark. Vikramjit managed to hit a boundary through covers and mid-off. He hit Nasum through fine leg for a boundary and slapped him through point for a boundary as well.

Taskin came to bowl the final over of powerplay and he got rid of Vikramjit Singh for 24 off 17 balls with 4 fours to his name. Taskin bowled a short of a length delivery from around the wicket angling into the batter. The left-hander backed away towards the leg stump and looked to slice it over cordon, but ended up playing to the left of short third man where Sakib moved across and took an easy catch. Shariz Ahmad came out to bat next.

Sakib dropped Shariz next ball at deep third man to give the batter a lifeline. Netherlands at the end of the powerplay of 6 overs were 40/3. Tanzim Hasan Sakib came into the attack next post powerplay. Huge mix-up between the batters but the run out did not happen as Bangladesh missed out. Edwards managed to get a streaky boundary away off Sakib. Mahedi returned and bowled a decent over.

Mustafizur Rahman came into the attack next and removed Netherlands skipper Scott Edwards for 9 off 11 balls with a boundary to his name. Mustafizur bowled a fuller length delivery slanting across outside off-stump, Edwards shuffled across a tad towards off-stump and looked to play it over mid-on but miscued the stroke, The mid-on fielder Emon backtracked and took a good catch. Noah Croes came out to bat next and got off the mark straightaway.

Croes was run out as a mix-up between the batters meant he had to get back in at the bowler’s end as Saif Hassan hit bulls eye at the bowler’s end. He fell for 2 off 3 balls. Sikander Zulfiqar came out to bat next. Sakib got amongst the wickets as he dismissed Shariz Ahmad for 12 off 17 balls. It was a short of a length delivery down the leg side, the batter was cramped up for space and went for the hook shot and got some part of the gloves on it as the keeper Litton Das took an easy catch. Kyle Klein came out to bat next and got off the mark straightaway.

At the halfway stage after 10 overs, Netherlands were reeling at 62/6. Wickets continued to fall as the Fizz came back and got rid of Zulfiqar for 2 off 3 balls. He bowled a length delivery from around the wicket, Zulfiqar tried to fend and got beaten on the inside edge trying to flick it away as the ball snuck through the gap and crashed onto the stumps. Aryan Dutt came out to bat next and got off the mark straightaway.

Dutt then hit Sakib for a welcome boundary between cover and point. Nasum returned as Aryan survived a close stumping check. Dutt managed to hit a boundary through third man region. Taskin Ahmed returned and got rid of Klein for 4 off 7 balls. He bowled it short into the pitch towards the batter. Klein tried to pull and mistimed it straight down the throat of Jaker Ali at deep square leg. Paul van Meekeren came out to bat next and got off the mark with a brace.

Nasum then got rid of Paul van Meekeren for 3 off 7 balls. He jabbed the length up near the off-stump, Paul tried to sweep off the front foot and missed the gloves. There was no bat involved as the ball hits the pads. Ball Tracking showed umpire’s call as the review was retained but Paul had to go as the on-field call was out. Daniel Doram came out to bat next and got off the mark. After 15 overs, Netherlands were reeling at 82/9 as Nasum finished his spell.

Aryan Dutt decided to play his shots and launched Taskin over deep square leg for the maximum. Hridoy then dropped the catch in the deep as Aryan got a boundary away off the Fizz. Mahedi Hasan returned to the attack as the Dutch crossed the 100-run mark in 17.1 overs. But Mahedi cleaned up Aryan for 30 off 24 balls with 3 fours and a maximum to his name.

Mahedi dragged the length back and aired it a bit and was right on the money. Aryan tried to hack across the line and the ball turned in to beat the inside edge and crash onto the stumps. The stumps were broken as Netherlands were bowled out for 103 in 17.3 overs. Doram remained unbeaten on 2 off 5 balls. 7 extras given by Bangladesh team.

Nasum Ahmed was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 3/21 in 4 overs. He was ably supported by Taskin Ahmed who finished with 2/22 in 4 overs. Mustafizur Rahman chipped in with 2/18 in 3 overs. Tanzim Hasan Sakib chipped in with 1/16 in 3 overs while Mahedi Hasan finished with 1/24 in 3.3 overs. This meant that Bangladesh needed a mere 104 runs to win the match and wrap up the series with a game to spare.

Tanzid Hasan’s unbeaten 54 completes the formalities for an easy Bangladesh win. 

Chasing 104 for the win, Parvez Hossain Emon and Tanzid Hasan walked out to bat for Bangladesh while Aryan Dutt had ball in hand for the Netherlands. Aryan bowled a decent first over. Kyle Klein had ball in hand from the other end. Emon smashed Klein over mid-off before Tanzid hit the same bowler again over mid-off for a boundary. Emon then hit Aryan as well reverse sweeping through the backward point region.

Paul van Meekeren came into the attack next. Emon was given OUT LBW to Paul but he reviewed and got the decision overturned as it was pitching outside leg stump. Emon then hit Paul for a boundary to deep square leg. He launched him for a maximum as well down the ground. Tanzid then hit Aryan for a boundary through deep fine leg. Klein came in to bowl the final over of powerplay and got rid of Emon for 23 off 21 balls with 3 fours and a maximum to his name.

Kyle bowled a back of a length delivery outside off-stump shaping away a tad. Emon threw his bat at it and looking to cover it over covers but managed a thick outside edge where the keeper Edwards took an easy catch. Captain Litton Das came out to bat next. He got off the mark as Bangladesh at the end of the powerplay of 6 overs in the chase were 41/1.

Paul van Meekeren came back post powerplay and bowled a decent over. Daniel Doram was introduced into the attack as Litton played a reverse sweep for a boundary through third man. Max O’Dowd came into the attack and was greeted with a maximum over long-off. Max then dropped Tanzid Hasan at long-on. A sitter that went begging. After 10 overs at the halfway stage of the chase, Bangladesh were 71/1 and needed a further 33 runs off 60 balls with players taking a drinks break.

Aryan Dutt returned after the break and bowled a decent over but there was no pressure of asking rate on Bangladesh at all. Max came back again and was smoked for a boundary before smashing him over deep midwicket for the maximum as the hosts were in a hurry to win. Tanzid soon reached his half-century off 39 balls. Litton then hit Paul straight down the ground for a boundary as the 100 came up for Bangladesh in 12.4 overs.

The winning moment came off the bat of Tanzid Hasan as he flat batted Klein through long-on for a boundary to finish the game in style and give Bangladesh a 9-wicket win with 41 balls left. Tanzid’s innings of 54* off 40 balls was laced with 4 fours and 2 sixes while captain Litton Das remained unbeaten on 18 off 18 balls with 2 boundaries to his name. 9 extras given by the Netherlands as the chase was done and dusted in 13.1 overs.

Kyle Klein with the only wicket to fall as he finished with 1/20 in 2.1 overs. Aryan Dutt bowled well for his 0/14 in 4 overs. Paul van Meekeren gave 28 in 3 overs. Daniel Doram gave 13 in 2 overs while Max O’Dowd gifted 26 in 2 overs. So, Bangladesh win another series under Litton Das and will carry that confidence into Asia Cup 2025.

What Lies Ahead. 

There is one more game to go in this particular series and it is a proper dead rubber as Bangladesh and Netherlands will face-off one final time in Sylhet on Wednesday, 3rd September 2025 at 5:30 PM IST. Bangladesh up 2-0 in the series will look to complete the whitewash. Netherlands fighting for pride would like to pull off an upset. But can they?

We will find out soon when the third game comes up and see if there is a close contest between the two sides. So, far it has been one-way traffic in favour of the hosts.
