Pakistan Cricket and Babar Azam have recently been going through a lean patch after the ICC Men’s ODI World Cup 2023. The Men in Green have been playing poor cricket, and they have endless problems to tackle. Babar Azam hasn’t been able to perform according to his credentials at the top of the order which has hurted the team a lot.It is worth mentioning that Babar Azam stepped down as Pakistan’s all-format captain last year after Pakistan faced an early exit from the ICC Men’s ODI World Cup semi finals.

However, as there was a leadership change in PCB, Babar Azam was re-appointed as the captain for the T20 World Cup 2024.But again, Pakistan could not change its fortune and faced another setback as they failed to progress from the group stage.

After another failure, the 30-year-old right-handed batter Babar Azam decided to step down as Pakistan captain again.Babar Azam second stint as captain for Pakistan in white ball cricket

After being removed as captain across formats last year, Babar Azam was reinstated as T20I captain right before the T20 World Cup but an early exit put the star batter under more pressure given his predecessor Shaheen Afridi was sacked just after leading the team in one series.

The 29-year-old was removed as Pakistan’s white-ball captain after the team’s underwhelming campaign at the 2023 ODI World Cup. However, after a period of just three months, Babar found himself reappointed for the job in March 2024. Babar Azam’s second stint started in chaos as Pakistan crashed out of the T20 World Cup in the group stages with the defeat to USA being the main low for the side.

The loss to arch-rivals India, after being in pole position, was also a talking point. The latest development, therefore, doesn’t quite come as a surprise, given the general trends in Pakistan cricket. The Test side recently lost to Bangladesh for the first time in history and Pakistan’s overall morale as an international side hasn’t been at its highest.

After Babar Azam decided to give up captaincy duties, many fans accused and blamed PCB of forcing Babar Azam to make the decision. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi shed light on this. While speaking to reporters at a media conference on Sunday (October 27) in Lahore, Babar decided to leave captaincy, but no one forced him to do so.

Speaking in a press conference on Sunday (October 27), Naqvi claimed:

“Babar Azam told me himself that he did not want to continue as captain. No one from the PCB told him to leave captaincy. He discussed it with himself with the coaches and wanted to focus on his performances.

We spoke to the 5 mentors of the Champions Cup and the coaches and the majority of them believed that Mohammad Rizwan should be the captain and Salman Ali Agha the vice-captain of the side.”Also Read: PAK vs ENG : Nasser Hussain Highlights Major Flaw In PCB That Led To Omission Of Babar Azam, Shaheen Afridi, Naseem Shah From Test Squad Ahead Of 2nd Test
