We are all set for what is called the Mother of All Battles as India face off against Pakistan in a Group A clash at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in Dubai. It is not just a cricket game, these contests are much more than that and evokes strong emotions across the border. Both teams started their campaign in Asia Cup 2025 with comprehensive wins and both will be up for the challenge.
India under Suryakumar Yadav started their campaign against UAE and beat them in all facets of the game on 10th September 2025. They opted to chase and bowled UAE out for 57 before chasing the target down in 4.3 overs to win more than 15 overs to spare. Pakistan, on the other hand, did it a different way and wanted their batters to have more time in the middle. They opted to bat first and put up 160/7 on the board before their bowlers took over post the powerplay and skittled Oman out for 67 to get a resounding 93-run win as both teams are ready for the battle royal.
Overview
The buzz might be missing this time from an India-Pakistan game due to political reasons but it is still the most talked about match in history no matter where they meet as broadcasters and others hype up the game every day. Both teams like we mentioned made light work of their opponents UAE and Oman and unless something miracle happens, India and Pakistan will be the teams from Group A to make the Super Fours.
Indian batting coach Sitanshu Kotak in the pre-match press conference highlighted that once they got the green light from the BCCI which was in line with government directives, the focus of the Indian team has been on cricket and nothing else. India registered a massive win over the United Arab Emirates that shot their net run-rate to a mind boggling +10.483.
Suryakumar Yadav won the toss and opted to bowl first in India’s opening game. The hosts started well with the bat thanks to their skipper’s attack on one of India’s finest ever bowler Jasprit Bumrah. He scored 12 runs off the final over of the powerplay to take UAE to 41/2 after the first six overs.
The fun ended there for the UAE as Kuldeep Yadav and Shivam Dube ran through their batting line-up to fold them for a paltry total of 57 in 13.1 overs. Kuldeep Yadav picked up four for seven in 2.1 overs while Shivam Dube got three for four in two overs. Bumrah, Axar Patel and Varun Chakaravarthy all chipped in with a wicket each.
In reply, Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill added 48 runs in 3.5 overs before the former lost his wicket. Suryakumar Yadav walked in at 3 and hit a six on the first ball to take India within touching distance. The Men in Blue cruised to a nine-wicket win with a whopping 93 balls to spare.
On the other hand, the Men in Green Pakistan were pushed to their limits in the first half of their campaign by Oman. Saim Ayub bagged a golden duck and Sahibazada Farhan, who is usually a free-scoring batter, struggled to get the boundaries and played a slow knock of 29 off 29 balls. A half-century from Mohammad Haris added impetus to the innings. Fakhar Zaman remained not out on 23 off 16 as he saw wickets falling like nine pins from the other end. Pakistan managed a total of 160/7 in their 20 overs.
However, their bowlers stepped up to the task and managed to skittle Oman out for 67 in 16.4 overs. Saim Ayub, Sufiyan Muqeem and Faheem Ashraf all picked up two wickets each. Abrar Ahmed, Shaheen Shah Afridi and Mohammad Nawaz bagged one apiece to Pakistan an easy win by 93 runs.
So, the stage is set for the marquee clash to take place in Dubai later tonight. Yes, ticket sales have been low and the usual hype is not there. But this India-Pakistan clash is still the most hyped clash in the entire world and it is a clash that all stakeholders thrive on. Let’s see whether Blue or Green comes out on top tonight in Dubai.
Head-To-Head
India and Pakistan have clashed in 13 T20I encounters with the Men in Blue winning 10 of those and the Men in Green winning 3 of them. Out of the 3 wins for Pakistan, 2 of them have come in Dubai at the 2021 T20 World Cup and in the 2022 T20 Asia Cup. Let’s see who prevails later tonight.
Pitch and Weather Report
The pitch at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium has favoured the bowlers especially spin bowlers. There is lateral movement for the pacers early on while the spinners control the game in the middle overs. The batters if they apply themselves will score runs and ball will come onto the bat as the game progresses. The pitch is generally two-paced and a score of around 160-170 will be competitive. Chasing has been a trend on this ground and we expect the captain winning the toss opt to field first.
The weather in Dubai will be hot and scorching in the day with temperatures touching 39 to 40 degrees during the day. At night time, it will be a little cooler, but still will be challenging for the pacers due to humidity levels being a tad high. There is no chance of rain and thundershower and we can expect a full game of cricket. Dew may or may not be a factor at this time of the year.
Predicted/Probable Playing XIS of Both Sides
Here, we will predict the probable playing XIS of both sides set to be in action tonight:
India XI: Abhishek Sharma, Shubman Gill, Suryakumar Yadav (c), Tilak Varma, Sanju Samson (wk), Shivam Dube, Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, Varun Chakaravarthy, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah.
Pakistan XI: Saim Ayub, Sahibzada Farhan, Fakhar Zaman, Mohammad Haris (wk), Salman Ali Agha (c), Hasan Nawaz, Mohammad Nawaz, Faheem Ashraf, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Sufiyan Muqeem, Abrar Ahmed.
Key Players to Watch Out for in this match:Â
Abhishek Sharma: The southpaw Abhishek Sharma will be under the spotlight and how he goes in this pressure game. He has immense talent and strike rate of over 190 and how he tackles the Pakistan new ball bowlers especially Afridi will be key for India. If he has a good day and gets in, he can take the game away from Pakistan. But if he falls early, then pressure will be on the Indians and there is always pressure in a India-Pakistan game.
Jasprit Bumrah: India’s speedster Jasprit Bumrah will be a key player for India with the new ball. He can take wickets in the powerplay and break the game open for the spinners in the middle overs. India’s go to bowler against Pakistan has always been Bumrah and all eyes will be on him to strike early and give the early advantage to India. Pakistan needs to find a game-plan to neutralise the Bumrah effect tonight.
Fakhar Zaman: Fakhar Zaman looked rusty in the previous game, but remember he is a big match player and temperament. He is a senior player for Pakistan and the Men in Green will look up to him to do well. Fakhar has done well against India in the past and would like to take confidence from the previous encounters. Yes, his challenge could be Kuldeep Yadav who has dismissed him in the past, but a senior like Fakhar will be expected to stand up and be counted in such a huge game.
Shaheen Afridi: Shaheen Afridi can be the game-changer for Pakistan in this clash. If he fires like he did in the 2021 clash, then he can take early wickets and break the game wide open. He will be tasked to take early wickets and break the opening stand of Abhishek and Gill and then put enormous pressure on the Indian middle order who have been largely untested lately. If Afridi fires as Haris Rauf may not play this game, then he can single-handedly win the game for Pakistan. Or else Pakistan will find it tough against India.
Key Stats to look forward to ahead of this clash
- Hardik Pandya needs 3 wickets to overtake Yuzvendra Chahal as India’s second-highest wicket-taker in the T20I format.
- Arshdeep Singh is 1 wicket away from 100 T20I wickets.
- Shaheen Afridi is 4 wickets away from overtaking Shadab Khan as the second highest wicket-taker for Pakistan in T20Is.
- Mohammad Haris is 10 runs away from reaching 500 T20I runs.
- Shubman Gill is 2 runs away from 600 T20I runs.
Predicted Outcome of the Match
It’s always tough to predict a winner in a T20 format as anyone can beat anyone on the given day. In India-Pakistan clashes, the team that handles pressure generally goes on to win and that will be the factor today. Pakistan have nothing to lose while the pressure will firmly be on India. Looking at the track record and teams on paper and form, there is no doubt in saying India will start this match as favourites. They have all bases covered while Pakistan have a few worries, not a lot.
But in T20, one can have a bad day and if India does, Pakistan may pounce on them. We are hoping for a close contest in Asia Cup 2025 as so far we have had one-sided ones. But looking at the team in hand, Pakistan needs to play out of their skins to upset India. India are the favourites and should come out on top later tonight. Let’s see how things unfold later tonight in Dubai.
