RR VS DC: 3 Reasons For RR’s Narrow Loss To DC.

After upstaging PBKS in their previous game, RR were once again given a reality check as they lost their second consecutive match at home in Jaipur. While SRH chased down 229 a few nights ago here, it was the turn of DC to chase down a mammoth score of 226 runs on the board with 5 balls to spare. RR have now lost both their home games in Jaipur after winning their 3 games in Guwahati earlier in the tournament. RR’s batting clicked, but the bowling was below par. We will try to list out three reasons for their loss last night.

Conceding 110 runs opening stand in 9.3 overs dented RR’s chances in the game.

After posting 225 on the board, RR would have hoped for quick wickets and put the Capitals under serious pressure. It was also needed to take wickets on a flat pitch. But RR did not get wickets in the power play and almost went wicketless in the first 10 overs. Pathum Nissanka took the attack to the opposition with KL Rahul playing second fiddle, but complementing each other really well.

The duo made sure that the Capitals managed to score 70 runs in the first power play to lay the base for the chase. The duo continued to plunder the runs beyond that as both players reached their fifties at a fair clip, with Nissanka going all guns blazing. The RR bowlers were found wanting. Jofra Archer and Nandre Burger went for runs and were not in control with the new ball. Tushar Deshpande bowled a tad better. Brijesh Sharma went for a few while the two spinners also went for runs.

RR needs to find their consistency and get its bowling fixed if they want to qualify for the playoffs without drama. They are well-placed in the points table for now, but things could become interesting if they lose another game soon. Their batting is functioning now, just need their bowling to come good soon and sort out their issues, whatever they had.

Twin failures of RR openers dent the progress.

RR captain Riyan Parag won the toss and decided to bat first. While Parag had a great day with the bat in hand, scoring 90 off 50 balls, the others were blowing hot and cold. Parag would have hoped both the openers would give his side a flying start. They have consistently done that, but it was not to be last night as both openers fell for single-digit scores. This is a game of cricket, and it happens, so one need not fret about it too much.

Yashasvi Jaiswal first hit Mitchell Starc for the maximum to welcome him in IPL 2026. But a few balls later, Starc got him out off a full toss as Jaiswal lobbed the ball in the air, and the catch was taken by the bowler easily. Jaiswal went for 6. Then, in the second over of the contest, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi hit a glorious boundary to get himself going. Jamieson hit back and got him bowled. The Royals were reduced to 12/2 inside the first two overs. So, then they had to rebuild things a little.

Yes, Donovan Ferreira played the perfect role of a finisher after Parag’s 90, and RR got to 225, which is a great score. Having said that, if the openers had fired in unison, RR may have got to a bigger score, which is what is needed, it seems, in Jaipur, based on the two matches we have had there. It was rare that both fell for single-digit scores, but that’s the way the game goes. Going forward, it will be imperative that one of them gets a score for the team to make stable progress.

Jofra Archer & Nandre Burger being taken for runs affected the performance of RR.

Another crucial aspect to note was the underwhelming performance of the two foreign bowlers, Jofra Archer and Nandre Burger. Both Archer and Burger have done well in the past in this IPL 2026. While Burger went for runs in the previous game, Archer also went for a bit this time. It meant that both of them could take wickets and also did not stem the flow of runs, which allowed Delhi to get the platform needed for the win. The base is important, and DC got that through the opening stand and the inability of Archer and Burger.

Credit must be given to Pathum Nissanka and KL Rahul for neutralising the new ball through their techniques and methods. But the duo bowled wrong lines and lengths and could not execute the plan that was there to be executed. As a result, DC got the platform, and despite them taking wickets later on, they couldn’t find a way in as the players down the order finished the job for the Capitals.

RR will be desperately hoping that Archer and Burger, in tandem, get their mojo back soon. Archer had a rare off day, which can happen, but Burger went for plenty in back-to-back games. For RR to continue doing well and progressing to the playoffs without much drama, they will be hoping that these two players fire in unison and get the job done for them.

What Lies Ahead.

So, RR lost another home game in IPL 2026 in Jaipur and stayed in 4th place while DC have gone to 6th in the table. RR will play after a week’s gap, while DC will also play next week on May 5th against CSK. Speaking of CSK, they are in action tonight against their greatest rivals, MI, in Chennai. Both teams are struggling. Who will get bragging rights and keep their slim playoff hopes alive? Only time will tell.
