IPL 2026: MS Dhoni Ruled Out Of First 2 Weeks

A significant challenge has arisen for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) ahead of the IPL 2026 season, as the franchise has confirmed that legendary former captain MS Dhoni will miss the first two weeks of the league. A player synonymous with calmness, leadership, and outstanding tactical brilliance, MS Dhoni’s absence will leave a noticeable void in the overall structure and mindset of the CSK team. An announcement made on Saturday, March 28, 2026, cited a calf strain sustained during the team’s pre-season training camp as the reason for his absence.

MS Dhoni’s absence a huge loss for CSK

MS Doni is expected to be out of action for approximately 14 days while undergoing intensive rehabilitation. During this timeline, he will miss at least the first four matches of the campaign, including the high-stakes season opener against Rajasthan Royals in Guwahati on March 30.

MS Dhoni role in the CSK team has always extended beyond his contributions with the bat; his sharp game awareness, composure, and ability to lead during high-pressure moments have been central to the franchise’s success over the years. Along with this, current captain Ruturaj Gaikwad often relies on Dhoni’s seasoned instincts, and his absence from the ground for the first two weeks could be a major concern for the team.

The primary concern for the CSK team on the ground will be filling the gloves behind the stumps, as MS Dhoni is one of the best wicket-keepers CSK has ever seen. Fortunately, the recent high-profile acquisition of Sanju Samson has provided the team with a world-class alternative. Samson is expected to take over wicket-keeping duties immediately and bring aggressive strokeplay and keeping to the ground.

Ultimately, for now, the Yellow Army must navigate the field without their seasoned leader in the initial phase of IPL 2026. Fans will therefore be watching closely to see how the team adapts and whether Dhoni’s absence can present a chance for CSK to explore their bench strength early on in the tournament and spot emerging players. How they navigate these crucial early games without MS Dhoni on the field will significantly influence their momentum for this league.
