ENG vs IND : Ryan Ten Doescathe Clears The Air On Rishabh Pant’s Availability For 4th Test Match

India captain Shubman Gill has given a positive update on Rishabh Pant’s fitness after the wicketkeeper-batter picked up a minor injury during the third Test against England at Lord’s. Speaking at the post-match press conference, Gill confirmed that Rishabh Pant went for scans but there is nothing serious.

Rishabh Pant injured his index finger on his left hand while attempting to collect a delivery from Jasprit Bumrah during the 34th over of England’s first innings. At first, he was given medical attention on the field but when that didn’t help, he was taken off the field. Dhruv Jurel replaced him as wicketkeeper for the rest of the match.

India captain Shubman Gill provided an update on his vice captain Rishabh Pant’s injury which he sustained while keeping during the opening day of the Lord’s Test, something that kept him away from wicketkeeping duties. With Pant unable to keep, Dhruv Jurel had donned the wicketkeeper’s for the remainder of the match.

“Rishabh went for scans. There is no major injury so he should be fine for fourth Test in Manchester,” Gill said in the post-match press conference. The 4th Test is scheduled to take place on July 23-27.

Rishabh Pant was grimacing in pain after putting in a dive to stop a delivery on his left, which Jasprit Bumrah had sprayed down the leg side in the 34th over of the innings during the second session. Rishabh Pant had managed to get his hands on the ball but could not stop it entirely as England batters Joe Root and Ollie Pope scampered for a couple.

The play was then held up for a while as Rishabh Pant received treatment on his hand from the Indian support staff, but the wicketkeeper kept shrugging his hands when the action resumed. Eventually, Pant left the field after the end of Bumrah’s over.

“Team India vice-captain Rishabh Pant got hit on his left index finger. He is receiving treatment at the moment and under the supervision of the medical team. Dhruv Jurel is currently keeping wickets in Rishabh’s absence,” the BCCI had said.

Rishabh Pant did not bat on Tuesday nor did he keep wickets, as he focused on light training. Rishabh Pant is yet to recover completely from the injury he suffereded to his left index finger while diving to stop a ball down the leg side during England’s first innings at Lord’s. Though he batted in both innings, Rishabh Pant did not keep wickets after suffering the injury, with Dhruv Jurel taking his place on the field.

There was no taping on Rishabh Pant’s index finger on Thursday, but while his injury is healing, any impact on the finger remains painful. Ryan Ten Doeschate said India were optimistic Rishabh Pant would play in Manchester, with the only question being whether or not he would keep wickets.

Ryan Ten Doescathe gives major update on Rishabh Pant’s injury

India are all set to take on England in the fourth Test of the five-match series at Old Trafford in Manchester. This is a must-win game for India, especially after losing the third Test at Lord’s in a heartbreaking fashion. India are now trailing in the series by a margin of 1-2. A loss in the fourth Test would mean that India would lose the series with a game to go.
Rishabh Pant would be a crucial player for India in the series, given the golden run of form he is in. He suffered a finger injury in the third Test, and hence he could not keep for the maximum duration of the match. This might force a change in Rishabh Pant’s role, according to assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate.
In the press conference before the 4th Test vs England, Ryan ten Doeschate hinted that Rishabh Pant might not keep in the fourth Test if he is not fully fit. However, he will definitely bat in the match. If he does not keep, then Dhruv Jurel will replace him.
“He will bat in Manchester before the Test. I don’t think you’re gonna keep Rishabh out of the Test no matter what. He batted with quite a lot of pain in the 3rd Test, and it’s only going to get easier on his finger. Keeping is the last part of the process. We need to make sure that he can keep — we don’t want to go through that again where we have to replace the keeper halfway through an innings,” Doeschate said.
“But he rested today, was trying to give the finger as long as possible, and hopefully, he’s good to go in Manchester in the first session. He is in the equation, but I mean if he’s fit, he plays the next Test and does both,” he added.
Rishabh Pant has 2677 runs in World Test Championship (WTC) history for India. Rohit Sharma holds the record for the most runs for India in WTC history, with 2716 runs to his name. If Pant scores 40 runs in the fourth Test, he has the chance to overtake the former India Test captain and break his record. Hence, he is chasing greatness in the 4th Test.

England and India will play the fourth Test after a nine-day gap, at Old Trafford from July 23 and India would require the services of Rishabh Pant the batter in their aim to draw level the series.
