SRH vs KKR: Heinrich Klaasen’s 37 Balls Explosive Century Lights Up Delhi

On May 25, 2025, at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, Heinrich Klaasen delivered a masterclass in power-hitting, smashing a 37-ball century—tied for the third-fastest in IPL history—to propel Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) to a colossal 278/3 against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). His unbeaten 105 off 39 balls, laced with seven fours and nine sixes, was a spectacle of precision and aggression, dismantling KKR’s bowling attack and securing a 110-run victory for SRH in their final IPL 2025 league match.

Promoted to No. 3, Klaasen walked in after SRH’s openers, Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma, set a fiery platform with a 92-run stand. Facing his first ball from Sunil Narine in the seventh over, Klaasen calmly nudged a single to get off the mark, settling into the crease. The next ball, a quicker one, was met with a deft cut for a boundary, signaling his intent. Narine’s third ball was dispatched over midwicket for a towering six, Klaasen’s trademark lofted cover drive meeting the Delhi crowd’s roar. He ended the over with a quick single, already looking in ominous touch.

The eighth over saw Klaasen face Anrich Nortje. A short ball was pulled ferociously for four, followed by a crisp drive through cover for another boundary. Nortje’s fuller delivery was met with a monstrous six over long-on, Klaasen’s bat swing generating effortless power. He took a single to rotate the strike, maintaining SRH’s momentum.

Against Vaibhav Arora in the ninth, Klaasen flicked a full toss for four, then launched a slower ball into the stands for six, capitalizing on the short straight boundaries. A dot ball followed as he missed a scoop, but he made amends with a lofted cover drive for four.

Narine returned for the 11th over, but Klaasen was unrelenting. A flighted delivery was smashed straight for six, followed by a swept four. A rare dot ball came as Narine fired one wide, but Klaasen responded with a reverse-sweep for four, showcasing his versatility. The 12th over from Harshit Rana was carnage—Klaasen hammered a short ball for six over deep midwicket, then drove a full ball for four down the ground. Another six, this time over long-off, took him to 49 off 21 balls. A single brought up his fifty, a milestone met with a standing ovation.

Klaasen’s assault continued against Andre Russell in the 14th. A low full toss was dispatched for six over square leg, followed by a straight-driven four. Russell’s slower ball was lofted for another six, Klaasen’s timing impeccable. A single kept the scoreboard ticking. In the 16th over, Rana faced Klaasen’s wrath again—a short ball was pulled for six, and a full delivery driven for four. A dot ball briefly halted the onslaught, but Klaasen smashed the next for six over cover, racing into the 80s.

The 18th over, bowled by Narine, saw Klaasen inch closer to his ton. A single was followed by a massive six over long-on, then a boundary through point. With the 19th over, Arora’s slower ball was lofted for six, taking Klaasen to 96. A single followed, then a dot, heightening the anticipation. On the final ball of the 19th, Klaasen flicked a full toss for four, reaching his century in 37 balls—a moment of pure brilliance. In the 20th, he added a single and a final six, finishing unbeaten on 105.

Klaasen’s knock, with a strike rate of 269.23, was a blend of calculated aggression and audacious strokeplay. His ability to dominate spin and pace alike, exploiting Delhi’s short boundaries while maintaining precision, underscored his value as SRH’s INR 23 crore retention. This century not only etched his name in IPL history but also served as a resounding statement of SRH’s batting prowess, leaving KKR shell-shocked and fans in awe.
