DC vs MI: “You Will See The Best Of Rohit Sharma”- Michael Clarke Confident Of MI’s Star Batter’s Resurgence

Rohit Sharma has been in the spotlight in the ongoing Indian Premier League 2025 season for all the wrong reasons. His bat has not done the talking and MI is not winning. Also, Rohit Sharma‘s contribution is minimal as he is used as the Impact Player where he only bats.

And hence, one reckons Rohit Sharma should ideally stop playing IPL and focus on preparing well and prioritising the Indian cricket team. Remember, Rohit Sharma is 37 and is not getting any younger. Also, what does not work in his favour is that he is not the most agile in the field. The question is, shouldn’t it be wise on Rohit Sharma’s part to stop playing IPL, rewind, reboot and get ready for the upcoming tour of England after the IPL.

Indian men’s cricket team captain and star opening batter Rohit Sharma has been horribly out of form these days. In four IPL 2025 matches played so far for Hardik Pandya-led Mumbai Indians, he has only managed to score 38 runs. In the team’s last match played against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at Wankhede Stadium on Monday (April 7), he got off to a good start but failed to convert it into a big knock.

Rohit Sharma’s poor form in IPL 2025 post ICC Champions Trophy 2025 success is a worry for MI.

Rohit Sharma , who was instrumental in India’s Champions Trophy win, failed to carry the form into the IPL campaign and has struggled at the top. Rohit Sharma has scores of 0, 8 and 13 in the three matches so far. MI lost the first two games — against Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Titans — but got their first points on the board with a big, eight-wicket win over defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders on Monday. They’ll now face Lucknow Super Giants away at the Ekana Stadium on Friday.

Although Rohit Sharma was instrumental in India winning the finals of the coveted ICC Champions Trophy 2025 , his performances with the bat in the recent time has been an upside down curve . In the Champions Trophy played before the IPL 2025, he scored one fifty and that was in all important final but he was scratchy in rest of the tournament. The same pattern has been followed in IPL but this is not the first for Rohit Sharma who often had an history of starting the IPL with low strings of scores to his name.

Rohit Sharma in first three games of IPL since 2020:

IPL 2020: 12, 80 and 8
IPL 2021: 19, 43 and 32
IPL 2022: 41, 10 and 3
IPL 2023: 1, 21 and 65
IPL 2024: 43, 26 and 0
IPL 2025: 0, 8 and 13

Clearly, 2025 is the worst for Rohit Sharma in terms of runs in the first three games at least as he has never gotten these many matches to get going. In the 3 matches he has played so far, Rohit Sharma has scored 21 runs at an average of 7 and a strike-rate of 105. Nothing changed in the fourth match vs RCB as Rohit Sharma continued to fail scoring as only as 17 runs as MI lost yet another match.

Rohit Sharma’s rich record for Mumbai Indians

Rohit Sharma  is MI’s most capped player and all-time leading run scorer in IPL history. He joined the franchise in the IPL 2011 mega auction and has been associated with them since then. In the last 15 years, Rohit Sharma has played 216 matches for the Mumbai-based franchise and, with the help of two centuries and 35 fifties, scored 5496 runs.

Under his leadership, the Mumbai Indians won the IPL title in 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2020. He finished as the leading run scorer for MI in the IPL last year and was retained for Rs 16.30 crore ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auctions. However in 2025,season until now , overall Rohit Sharma now has only 38 runs in 4 matches and the sight is not looking good for this MI legend skipper once upon a time.

Despite Rohit’s recent struggles with the bat, former Australian men’s cricket team captain Michael Clarke has backed him to overcome the rough patch and do well for the five-time champions.

Michael Clarke supports out of form Rohit Sharma to come good in IPL 2025 for Mumbai Indians (MI)

India skipper and MI’s star opener Rohit Sharma has been struggling in the ongoing tournament as he has scored 38 runs till now. During their previous outing against RCB at their backyard earlier this week, he gave the hosts a flying start but couldn’t convert it into a big inning. Even though he might be struggling ex-Australia skipper Michael Clarke has come out in his support to bounce back in form and perform well for the Mumbai-based franchise.

Clarke, who is both an expert and a commentator of the IPL, has reckoned that Rohit Sharma is an absolute superstar and is just one good innings away to bounce back to form.

“I think Rohit’s an absolute superstar,” Clarke, an expert on JioStar, said during a press conference.

“It’s just a matter of time before he makes (a) hundred. I think it’s going to take one decent innings. It might be a 40; it might be a 60.”

Once Rohit gets the momentum, the current phase would just pass, feels Clarke.

“He’ll get momentum, and then, you know, you’ll see the best of Rohit Sharma. I wouldn’t be too concerned about his form,” he said.

“We all have high expectations of the great players because they’ve been so successful over a long period of time that, yeah, you’re allowed to miss out on a couple of games. But class is permanent.”

Mumbai Indians now face resurgent and dominant Delhi Capitals next on Sunday at Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi, and it will be a huge task for a champion player like Rohit Sharma to sparkle back in IPL 2025 for the franchise that he has given 5 trophies under his leadership.
