Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have appointed Sridharan Sriram as their assistant bowling coach ahead of the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) season. Sridharan Sriram joins an experienced coaching staff led by Stephen Fleming (head coach), Michael Hussey (batting coach), and Eric Simons (bowling consultant).
Sridharan Sriram brings with him a wealth of coaching experience at various levels. He effectively replaces Dwayne Bravo at CSK, with the latter having joined defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders as mentor.
Sridharan Sriram’s career in a glimpse
Sridharan Sriram played eight ODIs for India and had brief stints in the IPL with Royal Challengers Bengaluru (2010) and Delhi Capitals (2011). The 49-year-old brings a wealth of coaching experience, having worked as Australia’s spin bowling coach and later serving as a technical consultant for Bangladesh. In the IPL ecosystem, he has previously been part of the dressing rooms at RCB, DC, Punjab Kings (PBKS) and most recently at Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).
He was Australia’s assistant coach from 2016 to 2022, a role he left to focus on his assignment with Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). In August 2022, Sriram was also appointed Bangladesh’s T20 consultant ahead of the Asia Cup and T20 World Cup. In September 2023, he joined Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) as assistant coach for IPL 2024, and also returned to Bangladesh – this time as technical consultant – before the ODI World Cup. Sriram has also worked as assistant coach at Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals).
Sridharan Sriram joins the CSK spin force in IPL 2025
Former India allrounder Sridharan Sriram will be the assistant bowling coach of Chennai Super Kings in the upcoming IPL, the five-time champions announced on Monday.
“Say Yellove to our assistant bowling Coach Sriram Sridharan! Brought up from the tracks of Chepauk to a packed portfolio of coaching tenures in Australia and Bangladesh, he embarks on this new journey with the pride!” CSK posted on X, making the announcement.
CSK’s squad for IPL 2025 includes R Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Shreyas Gopal and Noor Ahmad as frontline spinners, with Deepak Hooda and Rachin Ravindra as spin-bowling allrounders.
CSK missed qualifying for the playoffs last year as they finished fifth with seven wins and as many defeats in the 14 group matches. Although they were level on 14 points with fourth-placed RCB, CSK’s inferior net run-rate meant they fell just short of making it to the final four.
CSK failed to make the playoffs last season and ended fifth behind Royal Challengers Bengaluru on net run rate. CSK will take on Mumbai Indians at home in their opening match of the IPL on March 23. The tournament starts on the previous day with Kolkata Knight Riders facing RCB at Eden Gardens.
IPL 2025 begins on March 22 with defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) taking on RCB in Kolkata, and CSK play Mumbai Indians (MI) the following evening at home in their first match.
