After finishing up a 2-match Test Series against Zimbabwe, this South Africa squad is now entering a three-team tournament over the next couple of weeks. One that includes them, Zimbabwe, and New Zealand, this seven-game contest is going to take place at Harare Sports Club. Starting on the 14th of July, this South African unit will first face the host nation and later on move to play the Black Caps.
With South Africa currently ranked 5th in T20 international cricket, this series will be fun as a new-look squad is going to test their depth. Led by captain Rassie Van der Dussen, who has experience captaining this side in the short-format game, his motivating characteristics will be a strong advantage for South Africa in all facets.
Batting Will Be A Huge Strength For This Unit
As this group has quite a few pieces that have played in South Africa for years, two key names that come to mind are Reeza Hendricks, 2271 runs, and Rassie Van der Dussen, who smacked around 9 fifties in 50 appearances. Two pieces in the top three that can really attack, they will set a huge stage around the powerplay overs before younger pieces like Lhuan-Dre Pretorious will come in.
Young Pieces Have A Great Opportunity To Make An Impact
Seeing that South Africa has many first-timers in this match, Lhaun-Dre Pretorious has an ability to showcase his six-hitting prowess in this group’s top three after being the leading SA-20 scorer with 397 runs. Someone who just recently made his debut for South Africa in test, he really has a great opportunity for the name to carry on in 20/20 matches. South Africa also has a great chance of maximizing potential in other batsmen, such as Dewald Brewis, who really dominated the IPL during 7 matches, and George Linde, whose a story of patience becoming key.
The Bowling Could Be A Massive Liability and Weakness
Since many of South Africa’s main bowlers like Kagiso Rabada and Marco Jansen have not been selected due to rest, this unit will have to focus on their second-level bowlers. Not having the same skill level, Nqaboymzi Peter, in particular, hasn’t provided any wicket-taking threat with just 6 in 8 matches. Meanwhile, Gerald Coetzee is another bowler called up after a while, who has picked up 12 wickets in 10 international matches, but also has a runs given-up average of 30.25.
Bowlers Being Inexperienced Is A Potential Threat
Looking at South Africa’s bowlers in this match, two massive threats lie ahead of not having much experienced depth and their units having high economies. Although Corbin Bosh looked like a key figure for MI Cape Town this year with 12 wickets, him and Senuran Muthusamy have shown their prowess in domestic leagues but not played against other international skilled batsmen. In addition, seeing that Nqaboymzi Peter bowls at a well over 9 economy and their only experienced bowler in Lungi Ngidi has one at 9.23, they may struggle giving up tons of runs against sides like New Zealand.
South Africa Predicted Lineup: Rassie Van der Dussen(C), Lhuan-Dre Pretorious(WK), Lungi Ngidi, Nqaboymzi Peter, Dewald Brevis, Reeza Hendricks, Senuran Muthusamy, Corbin Bosch, George Linde, Gerald Coetzee, Nandre Burger
