The star bowler Arshdeep Singh and his parents posed happily with the coveted T20 World Cup trophy onboard.
After the nail-biting performance at the T20 World Cup, Arshdeep Singh shared a series of pictures of his parents and himself posing with the World Cup trophy onboard the special Air India flight. India pacer Arshdeep Singh shared a lovely post for outgoing Indian team head coach Rahul Dravid after his tenure came to an end on a high as the Men in Blue became the T20 World Cup 2024 champions. However Arshdeep Singh got a reality check after the WT20 as he failed to score solitary run in 1st ODI vs Sri Lanka .
Arshdeep Singh’s stellar performance in T20I World Cup
After the heartbreaks of the WTC final and World Cup final losses in 2023, Rahul Dravid and captain Rohit Sharma were determined to end their tenures on a high note and it happened as India won the T20 World Cup 2024, going undefeated in the tournament. Arshdeep Singh proved to be the best bowler for India as he picked up 17 wickets in 8 games and ended up as the joint-highest wicket-taker in the tournament with Afghanistan’s Fazalhaq Farooqi.
Incidentally, Arshdeep Singh was part of the Indian U19 team that won the Youth World Cup in 2018 under Rahul Dravid’s guidance and the Punjab pacer posted a collage of the two photos with a lovely message for Dravid. Indian fast bowler Arshdeep Singh took to X to share a picture with departing Indian head coach Rahul Dravid. The left-arm pacer played a crucial role in his team’s win in the T20 World Cup final against South Africa in Barbados on Saturday, June 29.
Arshdeep shared a picture where in the left half, he had posed with the 2018 U19 World Cup trophy and with then-head coach Dravid. Six years on, Arshdeep and Dravid took a picture together again, this time with the T20 World Cup trophy as seen in the right half of the photo.
Arshdeep was magnificent with the ball in the final against South Africa as he picked up the big wicket Aiden Markram upfront and then came back to dismiss Quinton de Kock at a crucial juncture in the game. He then bowled a sensational 19th over, conceding just four runs and ending up with figures of 2/20 from his four overs.
Though coming from fantastic performance in WT20 WC 2024 , in absence of Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh seemed to be the ace man for India with the ball in Sri Lanka but his horrendous shot in the 1st ODI when India required only 1 run to win has irked the likes of Dodda Ganesh .
The social media was buzzing with memes for the India fast bowler Arshdeep Singh after he failed to take the team over the line in the first ODI against Sri Lanka on Friday, August 2 at Premadasa Stadium, Colombo. Arshdeep walked to the crease as India required one run to win off 14 balls after the dismissal of a well-set Shivam Dube (25 off 24).
However, the tailender failed to hold his nerve and went for a big hit on the first ball itself and ended up being hit on his pads by Charith Asalanka. Seeing the trajectory of the ball hitting the stumps, all the Sri Lankan players went up for an appeal and Arshdeep was adjudged lbw. As a result, India got bundled out for 230 in 47.5 overs with the game and the game ended in a tie.
Former India pacer questions Arshdeep Singh’s stroke selection after tie in IND vs SL 1st ODI
Former India pacer Dodda Ganesh questioned Arshdeep Singh’s choice of stroke after the first ODI between India and Sri Lanka at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Friday, August 2, ended in a tie. While admitting that tailenders cannot be expected to score runs, he opined that they can show some game awareness.
Chasing 231 in the first one-dayer against Sri Lanka, India recovered from 197-7 to reach 230-8. They needed only five to win from the last three overs. Shivam Dube hammered Charith Asalanka for four to level the scores. He, was, however, trapped lbw the next ball. With one needed for victory, Arshdeep attempted an ugly hack across the line. He, however, missed the ball and was trapped leg before.
Former India fast bowler Ganesh was not impressed with the tailender’s shot selection given the situation of the game. Taking to his X handle, he wrote:
“You can’t expect run from the tail enders but a bit of game awareness is paramount for any cricketer. That shot from Arshdeep isn’t going to impress the coach Gambhir #SLvIND #DoddaMathu.”
The 51-year-old went on to praise Sri Lanka for their impressive fightback and added that the tie would serve as a morale booster to the hosts.
“And it’s a tie. Great application shown by Sri Lankan bowlers. This is a going to be a great moral booster for the underdogs #SLvIND,” Ganesh wrote on X.
Sri Lanka ran India close in all three T20Is played ahead of the one-day series. However, they failed to do the finishing job and ended up conceding the series 3-0. In fact, in the last T20I, they were in complete command at 110-1 in a chase of 138. Somehow, they lost their way and the game ended in a tie. India then held their nerves to clinch the Super Over. The second ODI will be played at the Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Sunday, August 4.
