SA20 2026: Corbin Bosch’s 4-Wicket Haul Helps MI Cape Town Keep Their Playoffs Hopes Alive

Corbin Bosch stole the show with ball in hand at Newlands in Cape Town as his 4-wicket haul went a long way in helping MI Cape Town win the contest and keep their playoff hopes alive for now. Corbin Bosch looked determined and picked wickets in the middle and end overs to stifle the Sunrisers Eastern Cape. Sunrisers Eastern Cape who decided to bat first were restricted to 139/9 in 20 overs despite a whirlwind 42 off 23 balls from Marco Jansen as Bosch with his 4 wickets and Trent Boult with his 3 wickets stole the show for the MI franchise.

Chasing 140 for the win, MI Cape Town huffed and puffed to the target with Reeza Hendricks top scoring with 41 off 43 balls while George Linde with 31 off 18 balls and Kieron Pollard with 20 off 14 balls gave the innings the much needed impetus. They lost their way towards the end but eventually got to their target in the final over with 4 balls to spare.

Marco Jansen bowled well with the ball too with 2 wickets while Senuran Muthusamy picked up 2 wickets as well. But it was MI Cape Town who won the contest and kept their playoff hopes alive. Sunrisers stayed at the top while MI are still at the bottom but now have 14 points with one game remaining.

Corbin Bosch & Trent Boult restricts Sunrisers Eastern Cape to 139/9

Winning the toss and deciding to bat first, keeper batter Quinton de Kock came out to bat with Jonny Bairstow while Trent Boult had the new ball for MI Cape Town. The home team got off to a perfect start as Boult removed de Kock off the first ball of the match for a golden duck getting the outside edge to Ryan Rickelton. Matthew Breetzke came out to join Bairstow in the middle. The duo went at a slow rate and tried to form a partnership. They put on 24 for the second wicket before Bairstow fell for 15 off 10 balls with 2 fours and one six to his name to Kagiso Rabada LBW.

Jordan Hermann came out to bat with the score at 24/2 in 4 overs. Both the batters batted slowly as MICT kept things tight and under check. The duo added a further 8 runs to the score before Breetzke fell for 16 off 20 balls to Corbin Bosch. James Coles walked in next inside the powerplay. The powerplay score for the Sunrisers Eastern Cape was 37/3 in 6 overs and in some trouble.

Hermann and Coles had to now build a partnership as we entered the middle phase of the game. The duo put on 25 for the 4th wicket and took the score to 57/3 at the halfway stage of the game. But at the start of the 11th over, Jordan Hermann fell for a laboured 12 off 18 balls to George Linde. Captain Tristan Stubbs came out to join Coles in the middle. Coles and Stubbs added another 12 runs to the score before Stubbs fell for 4 off 6 balls to Bosch as Eastern Cape lost half their side for 69 in 12.1 overs.

Marco Jansen came in to join Coles in the middle as the big guy made his intentions clear and was quickly out of the blocks. The duo put on a useful 45 run stand off 28 balls with Coles contributing only 8 while Jansen raced to 36 off 19 balls. Coles was then dismissed for 28 off 27 balls with one four and one six to his name as he was cleaned up by Boult.

Lewis Gregory came out to bat next. Gregory and Jansen added another 9 runs to the score before the big guy fell for a crucial 42 off 23 balls with 3 fours and 4 sixes to his name to Bosch. Anrich Nortje came out to bat with 2 balls to spare in the innings and managed to get 4 runs off the 2 balls he faced as the Sunrisers Eastern Cape managed a modest 139/9 in 20 overs. Gregory remained unbeaten on 6 off 5 balls while Nortje remained unbeaten on 4 off 2 balls. Just 4 extras given by the fielding side.
