PBKS vs LSG: Priyansh Arya & Cooper Connolly Smashes LSG To Remain Unbeaten

Priyansh Arya and Cooper Connolly starred with the bat and put on 182 for the second wicket in 80 balls to take the game away from LSG. The duo smashed the LSG bowlers to all parts of the ground and gave them no chance to relax. The duo almost scored hundreds but settled for 93 and 87, respectively, for Pooran and Connolly. These two powered PBKS to 254/7 after 20 overs, with only Prince Yadav bowling well for his 2 wickets.

In reply, the likes of Mitchell Marsh, Rishabh Pant, Ayush Badoni and Aiden Markram got starts but did not convert them into something substantial. There were lapses in the field. Shashank Singh dropped catches. Marco Jansen picked up 2 wickets while the others chipped in as LSG got to 200 and ended with 200/5 in 20 overs. But they lost the game by 54 runs and remain in 8th place behind CSK.

Put into bat first, Priyansh Arya and keeper batter Prabhsimran Singh came out to bat for PBKS while Mohammed Shami had the ball in hand for LSG. Shami gave his team the perfect start. Just 3 runs were on the board in the first over when Prabhsimran’s last match’s hero fell for a golden duck. Cooper Connolly came to the crease next. LSG may have thought they had got a perfect start. But what followed was the Arya-Connolly show.

The duo put on a show and counter-attacked the LSG bowlers who after a while did not know what hit them. Arya took the attack to the opposition while Connolly was initially happy to play the second fiddle role. The duo looked at ease, and LSG’s much vaunted attack came under immense pressure. PBKS were 63/1 in 6 overs of power play.

The platform was there to launch, and they got better and better as the game progressed. The attack was on and it was carnage off the highest order. Initially in the power play, it was Priyansh Arya all the way as he completed his fifty in just 19 balls. Connolly was settled in, and then he, too, joined the party by playing his shots. The duo just took the game away from the LSG team. Both completed their fifties and went deep into the innings.

The duo put on a record-breaking 182 runs off 80 balls before Connolly fell for 87 off 46 balls with 8 fours and 7 sixes to his name to Prince Yadav. Captain Shreyas Iyer came out to bat next. Priyansh Arya too fell for the addition of 2 runs to the tally as he fell to Manimaran Siddharth for 93 off 37 balls with 4 fours and 9 sixes to his name. Marcus Stoinis came out to bat next.

Just 6 runs were added to the score before the captain, Shreyas Iyer, fell for 5 off 6 balls to Mohsin Khan. Nehal Wadhera came out to bat next. Stoinis and Wadhera tried to add the icing on the cake. The duo added 15 runs for the fifth wicket before Wadhera fell for 13 off 7 balls with one four and one six to his name to Siddharth. Shashank Singh joined Stoinis in the middle.

The duo provided the finishing kick to the innings with Shashank being quickly off the blocks, while Stoinis went for it as well. The duo went another step up and took the game beyond the LSG team. The duo added 44 runs for the 6th wicket in quick time before Shashank fell for 17 off 6 balls with one four and two sixes to his name to Prince Yadav. Marco Jansen came out to bat next.

The duo added two runs to the score before Stoinis fell off the final ball of the innings for 29 off 16 balls with 2 fours and 2 sixes to his name as he was run out by Nicholas Pooran. Jansen remained unbeaten on 1 off 1 ball. 9 extras given by the fielding side as PBKS finished with a massive 254/7 in 20 overs.

For LSG, Prince Yadav was the star with the ball as he finished with 2/25 in 4 overs. Manimaran Siddharth finished with 2/35 in 3 overs. Mohsin Khan finished with 1/43 in 4 overs. Mohammed Shami finished with 1/56 in 4 overs. Ayush Badoni finished with 0/14 in 1 over. Avesh Khan finished with 0/46 in 3 overs. Aiden Markram bowled an over for 32 runs. So, this meant that the LSG team needed 255 runs to win off 20 overs.

Chasing 255 for an improbable win, Mitchell Marsh and Ayush Badoni came out to open the batting for LSG, while Arshdeep Singh had the ball in hand for PBKS. The duo gave PBKS a solid, steady start as they kept the run rate in check, but could not accelerate much. PBKS kept it relatively tight. The duo of Marsh and Badoni got starts before Badoni fell at the stroke of the end of the power play. Badoni fell for 35 off 21 balls with 5 fours and one six to his name to Vyshak Vijaykumar. The LSG team were 61/1 in 6 overs of power play.

Rishabh Pant, the captain came out to bat next. Marsh kept the fight going while Pant came in and saw it in before playing his shots and clearing the boundary with ease. The duo tried to forge a partnership as they added 48 runs for the second wicket before Marsh fell for 40 off 28 balls with 3 fours and 2 sixes to his name to Yuzvendra Chahal. Nicholas Pooran came out to bat next.

Pant and Pooran added another 19 runs for the third wicket before Pant fell for 43 off 23 balls with one four and four sixes to his name to Arshdeep Singh. Aiden Markram came out to bat next. Pooran cannot buy a run at this stage as the duo could only put on 11 runs for the 4th wicket before the West Indian fell for 9 off 9 balls with one four to his name to Jansen. Mukul Choudhary came out to bat with the score at 139/4 in 14.2 overs.

The duo showed resistance to the opponents and fought hard to bring the margin of defeat down. Markram showed his class, while Mukul showed what he is made of. There were a few dropped catches in the field towards the end from Shashank Singh as the two batters benefited and played their shots all around the ground. The duo continued to make merry and added 50 runs to the 5th wicket before Markram fell for 42 off 22 balls with 3 fours and 3 sixes to his name to Marco Jansen.

Himmat Singh, the Impact Player, came out to bat and faced the last ball of the innings and scored an unbeaten 1 off 1 ball while Mukul remained unbeaten on 21 off 17 balls with one four and one six to his name. LSG exactly got to 200 and finished with 200/5 in 20 overs. 9 extras given by the fielding side.

Marco Jansen finished with 2/37 in 4 overs and was the pick of the bowlers for PBKS. Vyshak Vijaykumar finished with 1/30 in 4 overs. Yuzvendra Chahal finished with 1/36 in 4 overs. Arshdeep Singh finished with 1/41 in 4 overs. Xavier Bartlett finished with 0/54 in 4 overs. So, PBKS wins this match by 54 runs and stays unbeaten this season and at the top of the points table. Priyansh Arya was awarded the Player of the Match award.

What Lies Ahead. 

So, PBKS maintains top spot with this win, and they will look to carry on the momentum in the coming games. LSG returns home and will now face in two back-to-back home games. LSG is in a desperate situation at this stage and needs to bounce back soon, before it’s too little or too late. They need to start winning games. Next up in IPL 2026 is the Western Derby as GT hosts MI in Ahmedabad. GT wants to keep winning and climbing up the ladder while MI aims to get its first win this season.
