Pakistan’s poor performance vs England at Multan
Pakistan made a unconceivable mark in the Test cricket history by becoming the first team to lose an innings match after scoring 550 runs in the first innings. Coming out well from the declared score of the hosts, which were 556, England responded impressively, declaring at 823/7. Then, Pakistan collapsed badly in their second innings while facing the hosts in the form of a bowler, being bowled over for just 220 runs, losing the match by an innings and 47 runs.
Pakistan batted first and managed to score 556 before Harry Brook (317) and Joe Root (262) added 454 runs for the fourth wicket. The hosts were bundled out for 220 runs in their second innings on Day 5. Pakistan have failed to win a Test in their last 11 attempts, including seven defeats and four draws. Shan Masood has lost six consecutive Tests as captain.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, the 43-year-old Danish Kaneria expressed his disbelief at Pakistan’s dismal performance and criticized the bowlers for their lack of direction.
Danish Kaneria reacts after Shan Masood-led side lose to England by an innings and 47-run in 1st Test
Former cricketer Danish Kaneria has slammed Pakistan for their innings and 47-run loss to England in the first Test in Multan on Friday, October 11. Kaneria questioned the quality of cricket by the Men in Green as they became the first team to lose a game after scoring 500-plus in the first innings.
The 43-year-old further slammed the bowling unit as the visitors declared at 823/7 while calling for changes, bringing youngsters to the side. Notably, the Shan Masood-led side posted 556 in their first innings before England replied strongly, courtesy of Harry Brook (317) and Joe Root (262) knocks as the duo put on a mammoth 454-run partnership for the fourth wicket. The hosts then were bundled out for 220 in their second innings on the final day. Kaneria, who picked up 261 Test wickets for Pakistan, said on his YouTube channel (via Free Press Journal):
“Today Pakistan cricket team died. I mean, what should I say? The way they has played cricket, either they should stop playing cricket or if they want to play then they should bring youngsters. I don’t understand what to say. How long will we keep just looking (losing) like this, what kind of people are these? Almost 850 (823/7 to be specific) runs were conceded.
“I feel like abusing them. I too have played Pakistan’s home series and bowled on dead wickets. Where did our reverse swing go, where are our bouncers?”
Pakistan have failed to win a single match out of their last 11 Tests, including seven losses and four draws. Masood registered his sixth loss in as many games as skipper (both home and away Tests).
Danish Kaneria heavily criticizes Babar Azam for poor performance with the bat
Danish Kaneria further slammed Babar Azam for managing scores of 30 and 5 on the batting-friendly pitch in Multan. Notably, Babar has failed to score a 50 in his last 18 innings in the red-ball format. His last 50-plus score was 161 versus New Zealand in January 2023.
“People are talking about Babar Azam, Babar Azam Sahib, on a pitch where the ball is not doing anything, you are dancing (embarrassing) there. What are you doing brother, when will you learn to play cricket. And our people are making him king. King of where is he?”
Pakistan will next be in action against England in the second Test, which will also be played in Multan from October 15 onwards. With Shan Masood enduring his sixth consecutive defeat, reports suggest that his position as captain is increasingly being questioned.
